Duckie Brown’s collection epitomized a chic masculine and unapologetic New York sensibility. As each outfit blazed down the runway, I had to applaud Steven Cox and Daniel Silver’s ease with architectural deconstruction. They came with a rogue approach to adorning the season. From the smoke grey front arm sweater to the brilliance of the pearl sweatshirt, each design exemplified the complexity of the effortless man. I was a bit skeptical with the first few wrap trousers and eight pleat trousers that passed, though not for too long. The cardigans, the sweaters, the plaids, and three button jackets were styled with unforced brilliance. Then I had to sit upright as the Bark and Fawn Shearling tried to call my name from the runway.
Particularly captivating was the Bruised Tweed Three-Buttoned Jacket, Stoned/Pale Grey/Pewter Shifted Cardigan with the Grey Flannel Inseam Panel Trouser.
Despite my reservations about pleats and the fall, Duckie Brown’s 2011 Fall/Winter Collection sold me completely. The designs were great, artistic and innovative.
