For the past 10 years, DJ Cassidy’s birthday parties have been the stuff from which of legends are made. Each one held in a popular or historic NYC venue and often attended by the very best in the entertainment scene. Honored guests to this major event are often treated to a grand spectacle that includes a surprise performance or 2. This year’s soiree was no different. The Intrepid Sea-Air-Space Museum played host to the celebrity DJ and an assortment of his equally famous, an in some cases legendary friends for this year’s landmark festivities. This year marks DJ Cassidy’s 30th Birthday and the end of his yearly celebration.
Hennessy Black, as the proud sponsor of the event, provided the thirsty masses with an endless stream of cocktails. Guests enjoyed specialty cocktails, including the very tasty Hennessy Berry. The night was a big one for Hennessy as well as they celebrated the one year anniversary of Hennessy Black. In fact, the birthday boy’s cake was a 5ft model of a Hennessy bottle.
“Hennessy Black is a brand that fits into my world of social and high-energy occasions. Because we both had reasons to celebrate, it just made sense to do it together this year,” said DJ Cassidy. “I was thrilled to share the energetic, mysterious and intriguing Hennessy Black experience with my guests during the party.”
As the drinks flowed and the official red carpet madness died down, guests enjoyed the sounds of guest DJ Q-Tip of A Tribe Called Quest as well as the legendary DJ S&S. The first to take the stage and get the party going in full swing was Hip Hop Icon Doug E. Fresh, who as joined on the stage by the retro kids, a group that is easily recognizable as they look like they just stepped out of a music video in 1985. Fun and laughter ensued as the kids and Doug E owed the crowd with popular 80’s dance moves and a medley of genre-crossing tracks. Once the man of the hour took the stage the crowd enjoyed a set dedicated to the late King of Pop, DJ Cassidy’s favorite performer.
In Michael Jackson like fashion, DJ Cassidy prolonged the entrance of his surprise guest performers, leaving the crowd speculating on just ho was on their way to the stage. The tension mounted quickly and just before the crowd had reached the end of its patience, New Edition hit the stage. All 6 members gave the crowd quite a show. It’s hard to believe these men have been performing together almost as long as DJ Cassidy has been alive. The rousing set included many of their early hits, “Popcorn Love” and “Candy Girl” as well as the crowd-pleasing “Hit Me Off” from their last studio LP. Once their performance ended the stage as lit up again by the appearance of NY Knick Carmelo Anthony and producer Swizz Beats who graced the pumped-up audience with a string of his finest works. A fine end to a brilliant series of parties, the night was one to remember. Happy Birthday, DJ Cassidy & Hennessy Black!
