Monday nights are rarely exciting but his past Monday we had a night to remember with Diner en Blanc. The annual dinner party made a fabulous return to NYC to celebrate its tenth year in the Big Apple. For those who aren’t in the know, every year thousands of people gather at a secret location for a night of dinner, fashion, art, and beauty. Guests are required to dress in all white and are only given the address on the day of the event. This year’s festivities took place near 230 Vessey Street just outside the Brookfield Place Shopping Center. We entered through a mall corridor marveling at the luxurious space before being transported to a fantastic garden party overlooking the Hudson River. Guests from all over created imaginative table scapes, filling the venue with masterpieces combining beauty with functionality. The tables were only part of the fun as guests wore gorgeous ornate fashions showcasing their unique sense of style. Also in attendance were several skaters, dancers, and performers who delighted the crown with their light-up, abundantly feathered, and or metallic costumes.
We marveled at the gorgeous guests from the comfort of the media lounge. The lounge gave us a bird’s eye view of the festivities as well as access to numerous glasses of champagne, courtesy of the champagne sponsor Barons de Rothschild.
The chilled glasses of bubbly were the perfect accompaniment to the small bites provided by celebrated chef Todd English. Chef Todd has been a guest chef for the event several times over the years, each time offering delicious one-bite creations of savory goodness. This year’s bite of the evening was mini lobster rolls. It was an evening of elegance and Brookfield was the perfect venue, in fact, it was the location of the very first Diner En Blanc. This year’s event took a step back to celebrate the past as we forge ahead to an uncertain future. May the champagne continue to flow for Diner En Blanc as we anxiously await its return next year.
