DIFFA:
COCKTAILS BY DESIGN brought together some of the most talented and celebrated individuals in the worlds of fashion, food, interior design and architecture to create and celebrate spectacular, over-the-top dining environments. Awe-inspiring dining installations from the likes of David Rockwell, Diane von Furstenberg, Jamie Drake, Jes Gordon, Robert Verdi, Kara Mann, Margaret Russell, Kati Curtis, Ralph Lauren, Barneys New York, ESSIE, Calvin Klein, Gensler, Herman Miller, Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, Maya Romanoff, and Roche Bobois, among many others.
Marc Blackwell started creating self-contained tables years ago and has three very basic rules one must follow while designing the perfect dinner table:
1. A light source
2. Something live (such as flowers or plants) on the table
3. You have to keep the wine open on the table for anybody to pour themselves
At this year’s Dining by Design, Marc has tied DIFFA into his table. This table has its own light source, live things on the table and open wine. He likes the idea of “the table as a unit.” Marc used the ever-so-striking DIFFA Red as a color with a very slick lacquer, and in turn, created what looks like a “budding flower” for a vibe.
In the middle of the table there are 30 vases with poppies translating the 30 years that DIFFA has given so much as well as a celebration of the 30th anniversary. Marc goes on to describe his table as, “a celebration of contributing to lives and a celebration of contributing to tomorrow.” Definitely one of our favorites of the night.
Guests mingled with the designers and previewed their amazing installations, all while sampling treats from some of NYC’s top restaurants, including: Asellina, Champagne Sweets, Clement, Dylan’s Candy Bar, Indochine, Davio’s, Jeepney, Mari Vanna, Murray’s Cheese, My Belly’s Playlist, Nitehawk, North Square Restaurant, Pera Soho, ROYCE’ Chocolates, and Lady M Confections.
