South African David Tlale is not new to Mercedes Benz Fashion Week having first shown at presentations in 2009 sponsored by Arise Magazine. That same year he was also awarded Designer of the Year by Arise. His great talent is on display in his latest collection.
David Tlale Spring/Summer 2013 was inspired by the idea of Transcendence. It is a celebration of the spirit we all share beyond nuances of culture, history, and geography.
The collection lived up to the inspiration. It consisted of evening looks with a couture sensibility. The glamour quotient was high. Standouts included an orange beaded gown draped off the shoulder and a corseted black dress with a ruffled train. The men’s looks were very fashion forward with sequined evening jackets, ruffled shirts, and ankle-length satin pants.
You can a see the designer’s South African heritage reflected in a Batik printed pieces that included an elegantly long dashiki, a floor-length evening gown and a cocktail dress with billowy sleeves The female models were also styled in gorgeously intricate head-wraps.
