A few of New York City’s food aficionados gathered at The Tasting Table where TV Host and Author Adam Richman put together his “Daring Pairings” for Alamos Wines. In case you didn’t know, Alamos Wines hail from Argentina and offers the best of Mendoza’s high altitude vineyards. Alamos grapes are grown at the foothills of the Andes Mountains at elevations of 3,000 to 5,000 feet, where intense sunlight, cool evening temperatures and mineral-rich irrigation from mountain snowmelt translate to rich wines with intense flavor characteristics.
What better way to sample some of their fine wines than with one of the best chefs around, Mr. Adam Richman. The Travel Channel host used his trip to Argentina as his source of inspiration and brought it back to the kitchen. “I tossed traditional food and wine pairing ‘rules’ out the window and simply created dishes that I would enjoy eating with friends. I think you’ll find that the recipes I came up with proof that you really can dare to pair Alamos wines with just about any type of food, whether it comes from my kitchen in Brooklyn or the streets of Argentina.” says Richman.
Upon arriving at the Tasting Table, it literally smelled as if we were in South America. I was greeted with a smile and delicious glass of Alamos Torrontes. Although I am not the biggest fan of white wines, it sure was refreshing to have and cooled me down from the rising temperatures here in New York.
After a little mingling with other foodies, we were seated for the tasting. Adam Richman gave a brief introduction and led us through each course (This man knows his stuff!):
Course One: Sweet and Spicy Seafood Pasta (Paired with Alamos Torrontés)
Course Two: Chimichurri Skirt Steak Taco with Provoleta and Grape Salsa (Paired with Alamos Red Blend)
Course Three: Malbec Burger with Creole Mustard Tomato Jam (Paired with Alamos Malbec) AND Classic Ribeye with Chimichurri and Roasted Vegetables (Paired with Alamos Malbec)
Course Four: Sloppy ‘Zo! (Paired with Alamos Cabernet Sauvignon)
When ended with a delicious lemon semifreddo with rhubarb and basil. The perfect way to top of such an exquisite tasting. The layering of flavors from the wine and food seemed to please everyone’s pallets, including mine. My personal favorites of the evening were the Chimichurri Skirt Steak Taco with Provoleta and Grape Salsa. The steak was cooked to perfection and held just enough moisture to have me going back for more. Coincidentally, my favorite wine of the evening was paired with this dish, the Alamos Red Blend. These two flavors will just downright leave a party in your mouth. I would highly recommend giving these pairings a try. They’re perfect for summer outings, special occasions, or simply entertaining friends. What makes them more loveable is the fact that their easy to do.
