Waiting in line to see the Custo Barcelona Fall 2013 show was like waiting in line to get into the hottest club in the city. The Box Theater at Lincoln Center was packed literally from wall to wall with people. The fall collection offered a wealth of luxe knits for men and women and a slight overload of prints and overdone styling. That’s not to say that the collection didn’t have some great looks because it did. Their take on men’s suits was refreshing with bold prints in muted colors. The styling of the suits was quite questionable because shawls were thrown over them. There were even man capes included in the collection.
What I did like about the fall collection were the furs and printed coats. The outerwear designs were strong and bonafide statement pieces. The women’s collection was heavily detailed with metallic, shiny Aztec and western prints as well as fur accents. Silhouettes for women were leaning more on the menswear side due to the relaxed cut of some of the trousers but the dresses and skirts were definitely feminine and edgy. Something that you would see Rihanna or Beyonce in. I felt that the Custo Barcelona collection took a dressy casual approach to fall. The kind of pieces you would take on a trip to Aspen.
