On another hot and humid Saturday afternoon, hundreds of people packed in and surrounded Rumsey Field, to be witness to one of the most exciting R&B concert lineups of the summer; Tamia, Mario, and Chrisette Michele. WBLS radio personality, Egypt, kept the crowd energized and excited as she played host to this event.
Tamia, who looked flawless in white, took the stage first. Although this native Canadian song bird has been on a bit of a hiatus, she proved she was no stranger to the stage giving me chills with every note she sang. Tamia performed many crowd favorites such as Spend My Life with You, Officially Missing You, Put a Move on My Heart, and Stranger in My House.
The SummerStage crowd went wild for Mario. The multi-talented singer and actor from Baltimore, who has practically matured like a fine wine right before my eyes, knew how to keep the girls screaming. He made hearts skip a beat and the temperature rise as his smooth voice serenaded the audience with tunes such as Braid My Hair, Let Me Love You, Music for Love, and Break Up.
Closing the show was New York’s own Chrisette Michelle. She donned a short natural auburn cut and a sophisticated form fitting black dress. Her jazz inspired tone is reminiscent of the likes of Ella Fitzgerald or Sarah Vaughn. She wowed the crowed with re-vamped renditions of her songs such as Epiphany, What You Do, Porcelain Doll and with a guest appearance from Rick Ross.
SummerStage continues with events through September. Be sure to visit their website for a list of events and sign up for email updates. –Dana Bingham
