If
Siriano’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection garnered cultural influences from exotic lands like China, India and Africa. He takes you all over the world in each of his 40 looks, from the lands of Shanghai (chocolate python fabrics, dragon-inspired carved wood in the heel) to the Buddhist temples of Mumbai (red and black hues, curved heels suggestive of Indian architecture). Much of the collection, Siriano writes in his collection note, were influences from these regions mixed in with measures of elegant opulence. A variety of Safari shorts, wide-legged trousers, and tailored jackets were key features of the collection, along with cocktail dresses and flowing gowns.
The collection started off with whites and khaki but the blank canvas were quickly splashed with colors of turquoise, deep reds, and paprika orange. Crocodile prints, snakeskin prints, and Asian fabric prints were all featured in the collection, in which the patterns seemed to captivate the eye. Metallic colors and asymmetrical cuts were a favorite design tactic of Siriano when it came to cocktail dresses in the collection, along with the use of silk organza.
But what Siriano did – and always has – extraordinarily well, are the fabulously grandeur evening gowns. The gowns were the pièce de résistance of the show, decorated in luxurious, fluttery ruffles that floated effortlessly down the runway. Surely, they were as dramatic and opulent as always, in true Siriano form.
Each of the outfits were paired with shoes from Siriano’s new line for Payless, and some of the outfits featured handbags from the aforementioned line as well. Booties and heels were also filled with Asian influence, as some stilettos had chopstick-inspired wood as its heel.
Siriano captured a powerful feminine feel in his looks – perhaps a Goddess vibe of sorts – which, as a designer, is one of the best things you can do when it comes to creating a collection: making a woman feel like she is on top of the world.
