Rose McGowan’s Revealing New Book Cover for BRAVE

by xoJohn

BRAVE is McGowan’s raw, honest, and poignant memoir/manifesto—a no-holds-barred, pull-no-punches account of the rise of a millennial icon, fearless activist, an unstoppable force for change who is determined to expose the truth about the entertainment industry, dismantle the concept of fame, shine a light on a multibillion-dollar business built on systemic misogyny, and empower people everywhere to wake up and be BRAVE.

Laughing Affairs, founded by comedian Felicia Madison, presented Laughercise, an innovative lunchtime comedy show, at the West Side Comedy Club located at Playa Betty’s restaurant in New York City. The Laughercise series avoids the traditional late night environs of comedy clubs, instead of treating guests to a one-course meal, dessert, and glass of wine in the afternoon as both up-and-coming and veteran comedians take to the stage. Laughercise’s times and locations are perfect for comedy fans seeking laughs outside of the traditional late night, male-dominated clubs.

My baby sister is 15 now. Just the thought of her teetering on the edge of womanhood fills me with dread. In our eyes, she will always be a baby, but they don’t stay babies forever. They grow up, move on, and hopefully become productive members of society. We are a few months into planning her sweet sixteen and I can’t help but get nostalgic for the days when I could bounce her on my knee. I recall playing dress-up with her and wanted that feeling again. Luckily my other sister had a beautiful little girl to help fulfill this need. On a warm Saturday afternoon, I seized the opportunity to re-create this moment with my niece. My niece is in town visiting and she is just as sassy as her youngest aunt. We headed out early that morning to secure a spot in the park for a family picnic. We set up our tables and grill pretty quickly and waited for the family to arrive with the food and some supplies. While we waited I gave my straw hat and shades to little Jazzlyn. My niece is an adorable, spunky little lady who was all too happy to pose for a glamorous photoshoot. After a few minutes though, my tiny little muse was distracted and not interested in sitting still. She squirmed, took phone calls and had to have a mid-shoot snack. I tried to hold her captive a few more minutes but once a little boy her age asked her to play, I knew I had to set her free. When I gave her the ok to be with her friend, she practically threw my sunglasses at me and ran off. She didn’t want the sunglasses, but she kept the big straw hat.

In preparation for my sister’s sweet sixteen, we gathered around my mom’s table with warm mugs of coffee, flavored with soothing Classic Vanilla Coffee-mate.  We looked over many old photos to find the perfect picture for a collage that would be displayed at the event. Among them was one of my favorite pictures; my sassy little sister wearing my favorite hat and posing for the camera. My little diva wasn’t always one of my favorite people.

A Conversation with the Men Behind Modus Man

by xoJohn

We were first introduced to Modus Man earlier this year as the gentleman held a private cocktail party to celebrate their most recent collaboration. I was captivated by the how the line was able to flawlessly mix prints without loosing it’s masculinity. Modus Man is Against “boring” Shirts, and Design is clearly their Obsession. Modus Man delivers Elegance which otherwise cannot be acquired. You will not find it at your common department store, or at any regular boutique for that matter. We recently spoke with co-founders Stanley & Reginald Saint-Amand about how their luxury menswear line, their clientele, and we get to know a little more about them:

Tell us about how Modus Man got started. What was the inspiration behind starting the line?

In summer 2008, the US economy was crumbling. Most businesses related to the Real Estate sector were in trouble. My brother Reginald and I (Stanley) were facing a similar faith; our Miami-based Construction business was suddenly going broke. We had to close up shop. The question surfaced: What is our next step? Online Marketing was our passion. We also loved fashion, and we’ve been lucky to have developed a good eye for it. All the pieces suddenly aligned:
