In sports, there is often a disconnect between player and fan. The player receives all of the glory while the fan merely sheds this glory. The player has the fabulous lifestyle that the fan, essentially, pays for. Carlos Campos attempts to merge these separate entities within his S/S 2014 collection. Inspired by the fundamental relationship between soccer player and soccer fan, their mutual love of the game, Campos designed a collection fitting for all men.
The
A highlight of this collection, spread out strategically amongst the looks, was this sort of flowy, crossing-lines pattern Campos used. The pattern really sticks to his vision of two separate worlds meeting. It is literal in that it is two separate lines intersecting. It is the soccer player and the soccer fan. The print looks its best when it is either stitched in white threading or screen-printed on white garments. In this way, the white makes it hard to forget the soccer reference. It also makes the print more potent, and thus the interpretation of the print the same.
It’s always nice when designers attempt to blur lines and shred negative notions pertaining to fashion: designers only design for models; runway looks aren’t ready to wear; the ever day Joe is forgotten on the runway. Carlos Campos blurs these lines with his interpretation of ready to wear for the soccer star and for the soccer fan, for all people. Proving that though we may all be different, we fundamentally want the same thing, to win. Campos wins.
