Newsboy meets military meets City chic is how I would describe the Fall 2011 collection designed by Carlos Campos.
The collection presented at Exit Art, made wonderful use of white backgrounds and just 2 beautiful vintage bicycles. This set up allowed the feel and theme of the designs as to remain the focal point, something I see less of at presentations these days. I had the pleasure of spending a few brief moments with Mr. Campos to discuss the Fall 2011 collection as his presentation got underway, when asked about where he gets inspiration for his designs and specifically this collection he shared with me this:
“When I look for inspiration for designs I like to reach back into my past and look at my heritage. I am from Honduras and it is a big part of who I am and influences what I like. This specific collection was inspired by Chilean poet Pablo Neruda”
The collection which incorporates leather and wool, does so in colors more representative of early fall. I inquired as to what motivated the lighter palette:
“There is some grey but Pablo Neruda used to write only in green ink and that is why I chose to use hunter green in the collection as well as colors that compliment well, such as midnight blue and rust. I used a lot of rust.”
Standout pieces of this collection are the leather jackets, one in rust and the other in hunter green and the speckled blue wool suit.
Overall, the collection flows in such a manner that clearly conveys the idea and inspiration behind it.
Later this year, Carlos Campos is set to launch internationally.
