In light of Capsule coming to NYC in just a little less than two weeks, we thought it only fitting to share with you some of our favorite onsite brands coming from the Capsule, Agenda and MAGIC Shows held in Las Vegas recently.
Twice a year, the best brands in fashion descend upon Sin City to show their latest collections to the “who’s who” of buyers with the opportunity to drive new business for their brands as well as stand out among their peers. A few brands that caught our eyes?
- In Nom Uh Nuit: Luxury lifestyle house first established in Paris and now gaining traction in the U.S. is a show stopper and one we couldn’t take our eyes off from its fine balance of quality materials such as intricate beading, graphic prints, and choices like fox, this brand is distinctive. It was exciting to see the brand’s U.S. debut at Capsule.
- Mohinders: Inspired by a trip to India, Mohinders are hand-woven shoes made with Vegan leather and dubbed as the ultimate “city slipper” given the comfortability of a slipper, but the fact that their simple design can be worn with virtually everything and go everywhere. The company works with a Bangalore-based NGO comprised of 170 families of artisan entrepreneurs with the main objective to improve the lives of these families.
- Lazy Bones: Lazybones takes a fresh and whimsical approach to designing clothing and homewares for modern, relaxed living. Lazybones has become known for its “Anthropologie” inspired quirky signature prints, delicate embroidery as well as a line of home goods including bedding, ceramics and wallpaper for a fresh and playful approach to any space within the home.
- Sprayground: Sprayground’s playful backpacks and suitcases immediately caught my eye, including the brand’s infusion of colors and careful curation of tastemakers the brand partners with to create bags that truly stand out. The brand gifted me with the very distinctive Pink Goddess Wings bag (currently sold out on the site) that was inspired by Viner and model
Hannah Stocking. The iconic wing backpack did allow me to stand out amongst the fashion crowd at the show and I’d like to believe it gave me some wings after the long tradeshow days on the floor…
-
Milk Money Limited: Milk Money Limited’s unique urban streetwear apparel from socks to snapbacks immediately struck me. The storefront, currently at the Town Square Shops in Vegas is owned and operated by Ray Milner who can’t be missed walking his best friend and furry tie-dyed canine companion, Dollar, who always draws a crowd.
- Vintage Wear LA: Remember your favorite old school band, Guns ‘N Roses or how about N.W.A.? Vintage Wear LA takes a fresh look at their line of tees infused with a vintage wear touch as every shirt is pre-shrunk. Tone Loc graced my wardrobe in the post-show hours, thanks to the brand’s generosity of the product for review.
- Genesis: The brands’ high-performance electric bikes were a fun stop on the show floor. The brand currently has several models out including the B1 Commuter which features adjustable seat and handlebars that is compact enough to fit on any subway car without taking up space and optimal enough for a ride throughout the city, as well as the electric skateboards and if you dare, high-performance hover boards (they even have one inspired by the H2 Rob Armstrong Robot in a variety of colors).
MAGIC (PROJECT Women’s, STITCH):
- The Laundry Room: The brand’s tagline is “for a rare life,” and certainly brings this to life with the brands’ fun, graphic collection of tees, bags and more with humorous spin-offs of popular culture such as “Beach Better Have My Sunny,” “Sweet Child of Wine,” and “Jack, Jim, Johnny & Jameson” among others. The brand offered a fresh take amongst a sea of plain clothes.
- Ciao Milano: Ciao Milano offers the perfect outerwear staples for life in a metropolitan city. In addition to a variety of the brands’ hooded coats with great zipper detailing, signature puffers New York women like to avoid but know are practical, the brand is also working on a multi-functional design with a coat that goes from on your body to a pillow – perfect for the jetsetter.
- Peace. Love. World: “The clothes that give you life,” I’ve always liked that this brand embraces positivity and comfort. As a frequent traveler, the signature hoodies and sweatpants with graphics such as “I Love Sundays” never seem to stay in stock.
- House of Wallace 1985: I’ve always liked supporting emerging designers. Ashley Wallace, the brains and designer behind House of Wallace is appealing to Millennial-minded consumers with her fun and feminine power styled line with a variety of pieces from pullovers to pants, embracing positive statements including “Travel light, be light and spread the light.”
- Language of Love: Language of Love is a socially conscious women’s brand that seamlessly infuses the versatile daytime easy, breezy beach look to night with the brands’ flowy tops, pants, dresses, tanks and more. What really struck me was the simplicity of the collection and also the fact that the brand is built on resources from around the world to create unique products with natural elements that are both fashionable and functional. Each piece is handcrafted with crystals, gemstones or metals to create “Balance, Authenticity, and Style.” CEO and Founder, Lorie L. McRoberts has a heart-felt desire to make the world a better place and is now setting this in motion with her own line after 30 years in global apparel manufacturing including prior at Quiksilver Inc.
Looking forward to seeing what Capsule, Coterie, Moda do next in NYC.
