Medusa Is Blooming: The non-descript building on West 35th Street is transformed into a soothing Oceanic paradise on the inside. Upon entering the second floor of the building you must check in with hosts and hostess dressed head to toe in black. The lines moniker Boudoir D’huitres is illuminated on a wall a la Old Hollywood (think blinding spotlight). There’s butterflies fluttering in my stomach as I continue around the bend. For an artsy move a model is staged behind a large frame draped in a fuschia, Grecian inspired floor length gown. Stand there long enough and you’ll catch her move slightly into the next pose. This however is not the highlight of the preview. Turning the corner I am met with several clusters of mannequins. Each seems to give off a certain theme within the line. This collection is all about color and the oceanic movement, particularly the movement of the jellyfish. Using a mixture of vibrant and neutrals for the color palette Boudoir D’huitres is comprised of separates, party and cocktail dresses gowns and flirty jumpers. While jewels are used to bring more dimension and vibrancy to tops and jumpers, it’s the dresses of the collection that draw your attention. Amazing detail is given to these pieces with the folding technique and ruffles at the hip. If you close your eyes you can see them transformed from a wearable garment to a beautiful sea creature.
Boudoir D’huitres SS10 is a bold exploration inspired by electric jellyfish formations and vivid explosions of underwater colors. The inspiration is transformed into delicate ruffle detailing, gem accents, and elements ranging from architectural leather dresses to embellishments of ostrich feathers. Standout pieces include a silk faille mini bustier dress with silk double organza ruffles in saturated rose, a tri-colored ostrich feather vest with with chiffon piecing, and a chartreuse lambskin leather mini-bustier dress with sculpted panels. Boudoir D’huitres retails from $350-$2350.00 USD.
