Last week, during New York Fashion Week: Men’s, The first ever Blue Jacket Fashion Show took place at Pier 59 Studios. This charitable fashion event benefitted Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCF). Money raised will go towards funding cutting-edge research that will save, extend and improve the lives of not only prostate cancer patients but other cancer patients as well. The Blue Jacket Initiative founded by Frederick Anderson and Laura Miller (Anderson/Miller) is a national awareness campaign designed to demystify and create a platform to openly discuss men’s cancer issues.
The fashion show itself, in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson, merged fashion, entertainment, sports, healthcare, and media under one roof. Notables rocked one-of-a-kind blue jackets by John Varvatos, Nick Graham, Joseph Abboud, Nicole Miller, Rag and Bone, Proper Cloth, Stephen F, Maggie Norris, Gustavo Moscoso, Thom Browne and Haspel. Among those walking were TV personality and MC for the show Carson Kressley, New York Giants Wide Receiver Victor Cruz, musician Ian Mellencamp, Mario Cantone, science educator Bill Nye, New York Yankees Pitcher CC Sabathia, New York Post’s Richard Johnson, model Alex Lundqvist, and CNN Anchor Don Lemon. The show was fun and full of energy. Before the show was over, we all were in for a treat, legendary singer Melba Moore took to the catwalk to belt out a song that had everyone grooving in their chairs.
The night was far from over, as guests made their way to the cocktail reception and dinner to finish up the night. Executive Chef Simone Cucchiara served up an amazing 3-course meal, featuring seasonal ingredients and Mediterranean inspired dishes. It was simply divine. During the reception and dinner, a silent auction was held, featuring sports memorabilia, art, and so much more. It was a night to remember.
