I recently stopped into the ultra exclusive Beatrice Inn, located in the heart of the West Village where Angie Mar is the Executive Chef. Mar is a native of Seattle, but at Beatrice Inn she draws her talents as a chef heavily from the rustic farmers markets of her childhood, with a focus on simplicity and seasonality. During my visit, Mar greeted me with a smile and her charming personality as she went over the the burger options for the evening. Let me tell you, this girl knows her stuff! After listening to the many offerings, I decided on the lamb burger, because seriously, who doesn’t love a good juicy lamb burger. It was just that, good, succulent, and quite scrumptious.
The Dry Aged Lamb Burger was cooked to perfection and was topped off with cherry mustard, gruyere, mint, and arugula on ciabatta. SO GOOD! Meats accented by combinations of hearty fruits and herbs anchor her menu at Beatrice Inn. Even the waitstaff gushed about this was their favorite burger and one of the most sorts after menu items.
Her impressive burger offerings also include…
Animal Style Grass-Fed Burger (Homage to In ‘n’ Out) with heirloom tomatoes, smoked thousand island and American cheese.
45-Day Dry Aged Burger with Truffled Duck Egg
As a graduate of the French Culinary Institute, Angie is classically trained but the heart of her experience came from working under some of the city’s finest chefs including April Bloomfield (Spotted Pig) & Sam Talbot (Imperial No.9), and in the kitchen at lauded Williamsburg hotspots including Reynard, Marlow & Sons, & Diner.
Be warned, Beatrice Inn is definitely a popular spot to visit. As soon as the doors open, patrons flocked to the bar and dining area, eager to grab a drink and bites. The staff didn’t miss a beat. I was lucky enough to grab a spot right by the entrance to watch it all go down. It’s a place for couples, singles, and those looking to mingle. I can’t wait to return with a few friends because I know they will want to after seeing this post.
Beatrice Inn is located at 285 W 12th St, New York, NY 10014
