Fashion forward, is defined as presumably hip, slick and cool. Encompassing these three components was not a challenge, when Bank of America presented “Fashion Forward”, Benefiting Gay Men’s Health Crisis.
Bank of America is known to be all about community, inclusion and diversity. Therefore, it was only right to include one of the most successful corporations in the country; to be a part of such a miraculous night. Being a global company enables Bank of America to bring worldwide attention to a cause that is a global epidemic.
GMHC is a not-for-profit organization, volunteer-supported and a community-based organization committed to national leadership in the fight against AIDS. They provide prevention and care services to more than 15,000 men, women and families that are living with, or affected by, HIV/AIDS in New York City, and advocate for scientific, evidence-based public health solutions for hundreds of thousands worldwide.
The Mission: GMHC fights to end the AIDS epidemic and uplift the lives of all affected.
Entering into the Metropolitan Pavilion, you knew this was going to be a night to remember. Drape Kings and Peeq Media provided décor and specific chic detail to the atmosphere. Great silent auction items were also charitable furnishing to affix the mission of GMHC to such a posh event. A purple studded Marc Jacobs bag, Tracy Reese black/stone ruffled dress, Hugo Boss Tux/ leather overnight bag, and a signature Nicole Miller dress were just a few of the priceless pieces that would be gracing the highest bidder. This was truly a night of abundant generosity and compassion; on behalf of so many within the industry of health, beauty, and fashion.
In a brief interview Wendy Williams stated, “I recognize a large part of my constituency is the Gay public, so it’s only right to show my appreciation and support this evening. I will remain a supporter forever “We still have a long way to go as far as HIV/AIDS research is concerned’, when asked the reason for attending the altruistic event.
DJ Neruda had the place rocking and rolling, playing hits from all eras. Cocktails were flowing endlessly and the hors’dourves served as culinary masterpieces. The crowd was dressed to celebrate life and style, bringing modishness and fun to a moment of consciousness, rectification and education.
Tim Gunn stated how honored he was to be able to host the GMHC crisis event for the 3rd year in a row. “It’s wonderful to see that the fashion industry can become a fun and entertaining outlet for such a notable cause”, Tim Gunn explained.
Suddenly the house lights began to flicker; that could only mean one thing; Saks Fashion show extravaganza was about to commence. “There are going to be 90 fun and fabulous looks coming down the runway”, Tim Gunn stated to me with that infamous smile on. I was in awe as he shot me the news, but in utter suspense to see how they could pull of such a huge feat!
Well; I shall never doubt Saks again, as the show was exciting from the first look to the last! All the greats were featured and not one piece disappointed, evident by the arousing applaud by audience members. McQueen, Chloe, Kors, Hugo, Jimmy, Dsquared, Ralph, Gucci, Louboutin and so many more graced the runway with contemporary and ready to wear looks. There were so many that caught my eye, I felt like a little girl in a couture candy store! A puffed sleeve Alexander McQueen blouse paired with a Commes des Garcon skirt and de la Renta patent belt, showed that in even in your wardrobe diversity is possible and must be attained!
Events like this are always worth your time and attention, if the attention paid is worth the reward of knowing. I especially appreciate the GMHC, because although the night was full of fun and fashion; the true purpose and objective was never hidden. “Fashion Forward” varied in success that night and demonstrated the true meaning of liberality.
