This week, the Crosby Street Hotel was the site of the New York Premiere of the independent modern musical film STUCK from director Michael Berry. The film stars Grammy Award-winning artist and actress Ashanti and Teen Wolf star Arden Cho who were both in attendance along with members of the cast, crew, and select media invitees.
Ashanti and Arden Cho shined in stunning metallic dresses and discussed what they loved about their roles in STUCK, a pop musical film set on the New York City subway, riding into theaters this Friday, April 19.
Ashanti, Arden Cho and Michael Berry were joined on the red carpet by Berry’s wife, Broadway actress Sarah Uriarte Berry and actress Patten Hughes (Heirloom), Broadway actress Jessica Bogart (Rent), and STUCK crew members Mike Witherill (producer), Riley Thomas (Writer & Co-Composer), Tim Young (Executive Music Producer & Co-Composer) and Shannon Lewis (choreographer). STUCK cast member and Broadway star Gerard Canonico rushed from his Broadway performance in “Be More Chill” to attend the reception which followed the Q&A.
During the Q&A it was revealed that the project was six years in the making. The writer Riley Thomas was 19 years old when he wrote the Off-Broadway stage production. STUCK also stars Giancarlo Esposito, award-winning actor of the stage and screen. He is best known for his roles in Spike Lee films and as Gus Fring in the television series Breaking Bad. Golden Globe winner Amy Madigan and Nailed it! Mexico host, Omar Chaparro, round out the cast. They were unable to attend due to scheduling conflicts but sent video messages to the cast and crew to show their support.
The true ensemble cast plays six commuters who get confined together on a New York City subway car for almost the full length of the film. In STUCK, all the divergent characters learn about each otherβs very different lives. Giancarlo Esposito shines as the anchor of the film shining a spotlight on each character allowing them to share their stories through song. The soundtrack includes compositions with influences across the spectrum from pop to Latin to classical and soul.
