Gorgeous is the word for Angel Sanchez’s Spring 2013 collection presented on September 10 at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week at Lincoln Center in New York City. Inspired by Rafael Barrios’ sculpture, Sanchez incorporates geometric cutouts, architectural necklines, set stones and brooches by Barrios into dresses, skirts and gowns made from organza, garza and georgette.
With hues of off-white, ochre, rose, ink blue and navy, the pieces are structured yet reveal the delicate touches of floral appliqué, beading and embroidered cutouts. The collection is sophisticated and modern with unexpected elements such as leather side cutouts on dresses.
“Art, flowers and femininity inspire me,” said, Sanchez, a former architect. “It’s the balance of the soft fabric with hard edges of Rafael’s pieces.”
