Twice
The show began with Janine M. Villa’s collection, which drew inspiration from vintage Welsh blankets she owns. Her collection was saturated with color and patterns that juxtaposed together perfectly. Her knock out piece was a patterned suit, paired with an overnight bag, finger-less gloves, and a beanie.
Another designer which caught the attention of many was that of Yuming Weng, who hails from the Xiamen province of China. Using a pallet of mostly stone, taupe, and silver, she created a cohesive collection using mostly wool, one of the top fabrics of the Fall 2013 season. She was able to delicately layer and stylize the wool to create a feminine and romantic movement in the pieces.
Heather Marie Scholl’s collection was vibrant and quirky, and even a bit visually shocking. She embellished many of her looks by creating beaded leggings, and using the beading to create patterns on many of her blouses. Her collection was almost too fun, but remained well constructed.
Perhaps the star of the show was Qian Xie, also from China, whose construction made her a stand-out designer for the show. With her attention to detail, and by particular attention to negative space, she was able to create a collection that was fun, polished, and elegant. Her stand out piece was a Crystal coatdress, that was paired with a cashmere pant.
