The
Episode 1 features Brooklyn native Theophilus London. London’s genre mixing brand of hip hop has garnered him some critical acclaim as well as a faithful fan base. His set began with a high energy of the wildly successful “Last Name London”. He bounced across the stage in striped jeans like a veteran showman engaging the spectators and marveling in the spotlight. A more subdued sat with host Alexandra Baker for the backstage interview. The interview is an important feature int he series as it gives a glimpse into the person behind the music.
After two more selections from London we got into the 2nd episode with The Virgins. The New York based band is a sharp contrast to London’s energetic delivery. Their sound is not unlike early punk bands. Having opened for rock legend Iggy Pop and were sponsored by Jet for a 7 week American Tour. Though they aren’t household names as yet this group is well on its way, appearing on several late night talk shows as well as Rolling Stone’s top 100 songs of 2008.
