The elegant Edison Ballroom welcomed us with open arms on January 21st for the finale of their amateur dance competition. Having covered the inaugural event we were delighted to view the final competition, we were ecstatic to find our favorite couple had made it to the final show! The tension in the air was barely noticeable as contenders mingled with spectators in between sets.
Enjoying
Having been at the Ballroom during the fall we were impressed to see just how much the crowd had swelled. From a few scattered spectators to a full dance floor of competitors and well wishers. The competition had heated up over the six week duration and more than 10 couples hit the floor vying for the title. From 10 the judges narrowed it down to their 3 favorites and each couple was granted one last opportunity to wow the judges as well as onlookers.
While waiting for the final round, spectators enjoyed a four course meal, that included dessert as well as a full open bar. For the unbelievable price of $125 per person (tax and gratuities included) diners may enjoy a full bar as well as meal selections that include sauteed shrimp starter, followed by a lush green salad……..
Petite Filet as an entree option…..
And lastly a decadent dessert…..
After dinner the time had come to announce the winners of the grand prize, $1000 and a night out on the town complete with dinner for 2, limo service and theater tickets. A crowd favorite the winners were the same lovely young couple from the very first competition back in September.
Top contenders from the start,it came as no surprise that these friends took home the win. The winners, Steven Gu and Shimkiri Syiem are both amateurs who take lessons with Aleksandra Gisher and Werner Figar at Paul Pellicoro’s DanceSport at 22 West 34th St. The duo won with a score of 39 out of 40 from the judges. They were just a hair away from their closet competitors, who received a 38. Their Paso doble clearly made a bigger impression on the judges, than the competition’s Argentine Tango.
A fab night was had by all as the band played on and the crowd danced passed midnight. If you missed the competition don’t fret the “Swing into Winter” Series continues with 2 more scheduled dates for Dinner and dancing, Friday February 4th as well as Monday February 14th. Honestly, is there any better way to spend the most romantic day of the year, than fine dining and dancing cheek to cheek? We didn’t think so either. Contact Telecharge or the Edison directly and get your tickets today, who knows we may just see you there…….
