Toronto
On the lead single “Between My Thighs,” off of her forthcoming album, NvS allows both sides to shine, culminating in an honest and outgoing track that fits on the dance floor or in the bedroom. In her native Canada, NvS has received many accolades including Juno Award nominations and Best New Artist at the Canadian Radio Awards.Currently working on her debut album, which boasts production from Midi Mafia and will be executive produced by Teddy Riley, every song explores a personal experience, speaking to the value of emotional connections between lovers and friends. In a day where sex is the dominant message in pop culture, NvS steps outside the box to deliver a message of her own.
We had the opportunity to speak with the NVS about her music, charity work, and much more…
HOW DID YOU GET THE NAME NVS? WHAT DOES IT MEAN?
Some may interpret it as “envious”… for me its just a shorter version of my name.

HOW HAS MUSIC CHANGED YOUR LIFE?
Music is the Universal song of life. I wouldn’t say music has changed my life, its the soundtrack to my life. I don’t think anyone can live without it.
WHAT HAS BEEN LIKE TO WORK WITH TEDDY RILEY? WHAT’S THE BEST PIECE OF ADVICE HE HAS GIVEN YOU?
He’s a teacher, I’m a student. Its like going to class. You shut up and listen.
I wouldn’t say there has been a piece of advice, its more the moment and opportunity to learn that is priceless.
WHAT CAN WE EXPECT FROM YOUR DEBUT ALBUM?
Feeling, emotions, truth, integrity. Music that will leave an imprint on your heart.
IF YOU WERE NOT A SINGER WHAT WOULD WE FIND YOU DOING WITH YOUR LIFE?
I don’t consider myself a singer, I am an artist of vocal and written expression. I will always express myself.
CAN YOU TELL US ABOUT YOUR PHILANTHROPIC SIDE?
I’m passionate about giving back and providing opportunities for our youths to find creative ways of expressing themselves. The kids need support systems, resources and guidance. I try to include young people in everything I do, giving them an experience to learn, and have a voice in today’s mundane version of pop culture.
WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY DOING WITH THE REMIX PROJECT?
I spent the summer working with a select group of students, getting their perspective on music, interpretation, and creative visual concepts. The artwork for TOMBOY was a result of working with this group. This is just the first of many collaborations to come.

1) Water, 2) creative expression 3) silence 4) like minded and like spirited individuals 5) my eyebrow kit
MOTTO OR ADVICE YOU LIVE BY?
Be focused, Be bold, Be free.
PROS AND CONS OF BEING IN THE MUSIC BUSINESS?
I don’t look at it as “pros and cons”.. its more the challenge of finding balance in a world that’s so caught up in being caught up.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR PERSONAL STYLE?
a balance of Ying and Yang
WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE SONG TO BELT OUT WHEN NO ONE IS AROUND?
Whatever I’m feeling at the time. Its no particular song, I just make it up as I go along.
