We had the pleasure of chatting with the talented Maria Molina about fashion, styling, and of course, what can we expect from the New Years Eve presentation.
John Simon Daily: What can we expect from your NYE broadcast on Fox News Channel?
Maria Molina: You can expect to get a feel for all the energy and excitement that occurs in Times Square on NYE. About one million people show up for the party (more than the population of the state of Delaware!) and are ready to celebrate the New Year with concerts, music, and special appearances. I will also interview a few people in the crowd and find out what brought them to the big apple for the special night. My favorite part of the show is the final countdown to midnight, followed by fireworks and one ton of confetti dropped in Times Square.
JSD: Sounds amazing, what’s it like during the day of a huge presentation like NYE?
MM: It is fun and exciting… and LOUD. We have to wear two earpieces to be able to hear the show and talk to each other over the crowd and the music.
JSD: How do you dress to stay warm in Times Square?
MM: Layers and layers! It may not seem that cold at first, but after an hour or two outside, it starts to feel frigid. During last year’s program, temperatures were only in the upper 40’s and it still felt very chilly after reporting for just about 30 minutes. This year will be much cooler, in the low 30s, therefore I will be wearing a turtleneck, a sweater, a light-weight down jacket along with a wool coat with leather gloves, leggings, and boots. I will also stuff hand and feet warmers in my gloves and boots to help keep me warm.
JSD: What are your styling tips to look your best on NYE?
MM: NYE is the one night of the year that I will wear sequins and sparkles because it is such a fun night to celebrate and ring in the New Year. I think you can never go wrong with a simple black dress accessorized with fun jewelry or bright bold colors work great too. For makeup, I love natural colors, such as nudes, browns, and bronzes.
JSD: Who are some of your favorite designers?
MM: Milly, Robert Rodriguez, Diane Von Furstenberg, and Helmut Lang.
JSD: How does your on-air style differ from your personal style?
MM: My personal style is a little more laid back than my on-air style. I love wearing leggings, boots, sweaters, and turtlenecks, so the Fall and Winter are naturally my favorite seasons. I still do love wearing brights and solids off the air as I do on the air. I prefer a classic look (think Brooks Brothers and J. Crew).
JSD: What are your New Years resolutions?
MM: Each year I make a resolution to continue to eat healthier, work out more and keep a positive outlook on life. I think these three things lead to happiness in my life, and I believe being happy is extremely important. We only live once and it flies by! I cannot believe it’s already going to be 2013!
Special thanks to Maria Molina for speaking with us before the big program! Don’t forget the Fox News Channel broadcast airs December 31, 2012 from 11PM – 12:30AM/ET!
