Location: 1 West 67th Street

Cuisine: Italian

Best Dish: We are torn between the “Gnudi” with its delectable buttery sauce and the Paccheri tender bits of pork and expertly prepared pasta.  Both dishes were sublime. The Gnudi was smooth and buttery and the Paccherri hearty and comforting. We highly recommend adding both to your foodie bucket list.

Overall: The Leopard at des Artistes is an elegant space framed by a series of artful murals. Its aestetic appeal is evenly matched by it impeccable service and delicious menu. The venue is a grand space for your next special event, an important date night or a treat for your favorite foodie.

One of the highlights of our social calendar is the Sun Wine Fest, an annual celebration of wine and spirits. This Mohegan Sun hosted event, showcases adult beverages from all over the country. This year’s festival marked the first year of its rebranding as The Sun Wine and Food Fest. The celebration included more vendors than years past as well as a focus on food and the art of cooking. The festival is broken down into an action packed weekend of demonstrations, parties, and tastings. This year we attended the Saturday Grand Tasting as well as Sunday Brunch with Chef Mario Batali. The celebrated Batali was but one of several celebrity chefs in attendance. Aaron Sanchez, Rocco DiSpirito, Michelle Ragussis, and Roble Ali were also on hand providing demos and mixing in the hordes of foodies and beverage connoisseurs.

La Barrita Brings Argentina to Brooklyn (Review)

by xoJohn

Location: 132 Montague Street, Brooklyn

Cuisine: Argentinean

Best Dish: Though we would happily eat our way through a swimming pool of their decadent wild mushroom sauce, the star of the evening was the bone in short rib, a carnivore’s dream come true.

Overall: A quaint casual eatery with warmth and charm to spare. Add it to your date night roster or weekly happy hour rotation.

This year the festivities began on a Friday night with a Bourbon tasting and Cigar sampling session. Saturday is the start of the grand tastings one of the weekend’s highlights. The tasting takes place in the Uncas Ballroom, where the vendors have set up tables to serve guests their wares. Some of our favorites from the event include:

Wine is precarious. There are times when I have bought a $14 bottle of wine that tasted better than a $56 bottle. Some grape varietals prove more giving at the inexpensive price levels. Merlot- especially from California, however, is not so forgiving. There’s a trend in America, an unspoken law of the land that for occasional wine drinkers Merlot is easy to drink, and always available. Any bar or restaurant here in New York City that has only a limited selection of wine, has Merlot, usually from California.

Elevate Your Wine with Kim Crawford Gems

by xoJohn

Kim Crawford Wine has partnered with luxury home goods company ANNA New York by RabLab for a match made in “wino” heaven. The Kim Crawford Wine Gems by RabLabs is a stylish reimagining of the whiskey stone for wine. The gems were cut from naturally colored fluorite gemstone. Creator Anna Rabinowicz drew inspiration from the expressive, crisp style of Kim Crawford’s celebrated Sauvignon Blanc, finding a fun, functional way to keep sipping cool and colorful this summer and beyond. Anna expressed her excitement for the collaboration, “I am very excited to collaborate with Kim Crawford to create these gorgeous wine gems,” Anna explains. “For these designs, I selected fluorite stone – a gemstone which I’ve wanted to use for years because of its luminosity. The expressive tones of the stone beautifully complement the translucency and color of Kim Crawford Sauvignon Blanc. These wine gems transform your glass of wine into a truly extraordinary sipping experience.”

I am by all accounts a Rum and Vodka lover, however since the very first time I saw Olivia Pope wrap her lips around a wine glass I’ve been intrigued by this fermented grape beverage. What is so great about it? I’ve had wines and champagnes over the years sipping out of necessity but rarely with appreciation. Since I am a practicing foodie I need to open up my palate so I can speak knowledgeably about pairings and profiles. To help me with my quest my editor invited me to experience Mohegan Sun’s 12th Annual Sun Winefest. The event which raises money for charity features many booths from local and national vineyards all offering a sampling of their top products. Having been to Brewfest several times, I was excited at the opportunity to visit one of my favorite destinations. Mohegan Sun is an expansive venue with tons of great amenities and activities. Some of Mohegan Sun‘s features include:
