After a Summer of work, work, and more work we decided to take a few days of R&R before the holiday season. September through November is considered the off-season for Mexico, so it’s a good time to catch decent deals on travel and accommodations. Unfortunately, this is also the hurricane season which could be disastrous if attempting to travel during this time. Throwing caution to the wind, we booked our trip for late September and ended up with a storm-free week of fun and frivolity. The forecast literally called for Thunderstorms every damn day! It probably only rained for 20 minutes during the entire five days we were in Mexico. Otherwise, it was sunny and hot. We divided our trip into two parts; we spent two days exploring the streets of Playa Del Carmen before heading to The Grand at Moon Palace resort.

The area that is now known as Syracuse wasn’t much of anything more than two centuries ago, but that all changed in the early 1800s. It was inevitable to many, as the land was level, it was near numerous salt supplies, and it would be the perfect spot to connect the eastern and western parts of the state. John Wilkinson thought the village looked quite similar to a city over in Italy, so when it came time to name it in 1820, he gave it the same name. It was then that Syracuse was born, and it became a city once the village and the nearby village of Salina merged.

Cruising along the Hudson is one of the things we look forward to every spring. The view of the infamous NYC skyline and the tranquility of sailing is an experience that never gets old. A few weeks ago we upgraded our usual cruise, with a wine and cheese pairing class aboard Classic Harbor Line‘s Manhattan II. This particular cruise is about 2 hours long and features wines from all over the world paired with artisan cheeses all presented by Wendy Crispell, a certified wine and cheese educator.

Channel Your Inner Child at Club Getaway

by xoJohn

Camp isn’t just for tweens and teens anymore. Club Getaway is a fairly new vacation alternative for kids and adults (Yes adults!) looking to enjoy nature and the thrill of summer camp. The club experience combines camp themed activities with grown-up perks like booze and nightlife. We had the immense pleasure of spending the Summer season’s inaugural weekend at the expansive resort in Connecticut. The weekend of our visit was for the first ever Kirill’s Wet Hot American Weekend, hosted by Kirill Bichutsky. Though Kirill’s reputation is that of an insane party animal, this particular weekend was more about shared experiences and less about his famous “champagne facial” photoshoots. The point of the weekend was to push adult worries to the side and enjoy some fun carefree activities.

Smyth, A Thompson Hotel is located down in lower Manhattan or Tribeca, just below the usual tourist traps and walking distance from the financial district. This chic yet homey boutique hotel recently underwent renovations and provides guests with a more casual approach to luxury. We visited the space a few weeks ago to check out the layout and enjoy their cozy bar scene. The hotel is located just outside of the Chambers Street subway station making it an easy place to get to for locals as well as visitors.
