Korean designer Choonmoo Park’s Fall 2013 collection began with a subtle black leather tank and black slacks, a reinvented take on an old classic. This was the theme for the rest of Parkchoonmoo: constructed effortless classics.
The show featured fashions for both sexes. The male component was sleek, minimalist, yet functional. The combination of leathers, cashmere, and cottons offered a re-visioned take on sweaters and slacks.
South Korean Fashion designer Demi Park found her inspiration for her Spring/Summer 2013 by looking back to her roots. Her childhood was spent playing in her father’s textile and apparel factory in southern Korea where was exposed to the business of fashion at an early age. In her past collections she has pushed the boundaries of construction and used her industrial design background to create innovative collections.
For Spring/Summer 2013 Demi Park aka Choonmoo Park is reinventing traditional Korean Fashion, borrowing its national colors. The collection includes blue and red as well as a palette of whites and creams and of course black.
The lines are inventive and the garments flow and look as easy to wear as a robe. Black Baji style pants are paired with a leather vests and worn with a bright blue blouse. A balanced look that would work for an afternoon stroll in Soho or Southampton – in any city or country, New York, Seoul or Paris.
The choice of fabrics reflects this lightness. Airy cotton and perforated leathers are used to underline the airiness and openness of the collection.
Parkchoonmoo showed her Autumn/Winter 2012 collection inspired by Yeo Baek, a Korean Zen Art that refers to unfinished and undifferentiated space in design.
Korean designer Choonmoo Park has design in her blood. She has been around the fashion world for her entire life. As a child she spent many days in her family’s apparel business, honing her skills.
Over at Exit Art, new up and coming favorite designer Choonmoo Park presented my favorite show of New York Fashion Week. It was an ethereal display of white, grey and sharp contrasting royal blues in avant-garde styles. While the collection and color palette remained simple, there were still very much layering and flowing pieces down the runway.
