“Epson Printing Company” and “New York Fashion Week” a combination would not expect, but their event this past Tuesday proved them to be a perfect combination. Epson’s Digital Couture Fashion Presentation featured designers from North and South America using a new innovation in printing to take fashion to the next level.

New York Men’s Day Fall/Winter 2018

by John Stolen

New York Fashion Week kicked off with a bang, as it has recent years, with New York Men’s Day (NYMD). The bitter February wind whipped through sequins and shearling (and sequined shearlings) as the fashionistos, editors, and influencers made their way to Creative Drive’s Sand Studios on Water Street. A modified Gandhi quote from Creative Drive’s CEO (“Be the action you want to see in the world”) emblazoned on the wall opposite life-size action figure boxes gave context to the ‘grammable boxes in which guests posed – “You are our action figures,” a sign read at the end of the short, introductory, interactive exhibit.

As throngs of fashion insiders closed out New York Fashion Week and headed across the pond for an English take on summer style, we headed to Tuscany – a St Giles Signature Hotel to be exact. On this particular Thursday evening, The Tuscany Hotel opened its penthouse suite to street artist Pegasus and an array of fashionistas, art lovers, and über-chic NYers, to celebrate the reveal of the London based artist’s five new pieces commissioned for the space.

Portuguese designer, Katty Xiomara’s Spring / Summer 2018 collection played to the spirit of “Americana” that swept across New York Fashion Week. With a “parachute trip” theme, models wearing oversized aviator glasses and fierce eye makeup took off in floaty, flirty pieces with mesh-like, see-through and graphic imprinted textiles. In colors of sea green and pink, tunic maxi dresses, hot pants, ruffled skirts and sweet doyly collared tops referenced fashion from Southern California bohemian chic to preppy prim and proper. Xiomara seeks to create aspirational yet accessible pieces. Her Spring / Summer 2018 collection is wearable, although not completely original. Showing in Portuguese Fashion Week since 1998, Xiomara has achieved international recognition for her elegant and timeless pieces. In June 2014, she was awarded the second prize (Silver) by the International Design Awards on the Pret-a- Porter category. In April 2015 was awarded: Second Prize (Silver) in Pret-a- Porter Competition for the Wireframe Project and Honorable Mention in Women PP Competition for the Wireframe Project.

#NYFWM: Heliot Emil S/S 2018

by John Stolen

Julius Juul, Designer and Creative Director at Heliot Emil went out on a limb for the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Instead of following trends, he dove into the trenches to create a line that draws attention to the post-war existential crisis that is experienced by many, but is largely overlooked in our consumerist culture.

#NYFWM: Nick Graham S/S 2018

by xoJohn

Nick Graham presented today his latest collection, entitled Atlantis at New York Fashion Week/Men’s. Inspired by the mythical continent and the ocean, the collection was further influenced from fashion in the 60’s and Graham used Donovan’s 1968 hit record “Atlantis” as the music for the show. The start of the show featured a 10-minute short film directed by Graham based upon the ocean with music from 16-year-old composer, Truman Gaynes, adding to the overall experience.

“Even before the “Life On Mars” show, I was thinking of exploring the ocean, and not only our impact on it, but it’s impact and influence on us. The Atlantis show is really a metaphor within a fashion show. In many ways we are Atlantis and need to be cognizant of where we live and how we live here,” Graham has said.

#NYFWM: David Hart S/S 2018

by John Stolen

David Hart takes a vacation from trend – and heads to Cuba! While other designers and labels are still working in the colors of the year into their collection, Hart is traveling the globe and becoming a true trendsetter. Though, arguably the biggest trend these days is going to Cuba during this sweet period in which the embargo has been lifted. How long anything will last these days balances on the edge of a coin, so it was a timely move to draw inspiration from a world long locked away.
