Review: Solomon & Kuff

by James Bianca

Location: 2331 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10027

Cuisine: The lovechild of Caribbean and Gastropub Fare.

Best Dish: It is often the simplest cuisine executed well that makes the greatest impression, and the Yucca Fries paired with their house made Green Chili Aioli was a dish we returned to again and again.

Price: $$

Overall: For a restaurant that is located off the beaten path, its décor and cuisine could rival that of any New York City dining hot spot.

Global Lyme Alliance’s 3rd Annual New York Gala

by xoJohn

Global Lyme Alliance (GLA) is the leading private nonprofit dedicated to conquering Lyme disease through research and education. Currently, there are no accurate diagnostic tests for Lyme disease. The disease can continue to spread throughout the body, often leading to debilitating health consequences. Even following proper diagnosis and treatment, many individuals continue to experience symptoms of Lyme, including severe arthritis, persistent fatigue, impaired vision, memory loss and other cognitive problems. There is no test to definitively prove that Lyme bacteria have been eradicated or that an individual has been cured following treatment. Thankfully, organizations like GLA are helping to fight the disease.

Greenwich Wine + Food Festival 2017

by Desha Winborne

On Saturday, September 23rd we spent a sun-drenched day enjoying the 2017 Greenwich Wine + Food Festival, presented by Serendipity Magazine. Held at Greenwich’s Roger Sherman Baldwin Park, the event introduces brands, restaurants, and foodies to each other via a day of demonstrations, workshops, and tastings. The day began with a Grand Tasting, where vendors offered samples of their best dishes. Restaurants and caterers from all over Connecticut presented innovative fresh flavors to the hungry guests. The dishes ranged from tacos to cupcakes, covering a wide range of tastes. One of our favorite bites of the day was Back 40 Kitchen’s delectable beef cheek taco.

Video: Inside ‘The House of Peroni’

by xoJohn

The House of Peroni has returned to New York City. Located in SoHo, the three-day pop-up celebrates a range of forward-thinking artists and creatives, including Robert Montgomery, Lauren Machen, Patrick Hughes, Annie-B Parson, Brandon Franklin and more. This time around it was curated by musician St. Vincent. When speaking on the curation, St. Vincent says, She says “I’ll be drawing upon the surrealism of Fellini, the whimsy of the Memphis movement, and the vibrancy of the modern Italian culture to curate various multi-medium experiences that are ultimately inspired by Italian art, culture, and design. I’m excited for what’s to come.”

The public popup will run Oct. 5 to 8 in SoHo (201 Mulberry St) with a schedule of performances, talks and artistic installations. For more information and to find out when the pop-up is heading to a city near you, visit Houseofperoniusa.com.

Review: Gaijin Japanese Restaurant

by xoJohn

Location: 37-12 31st Ave, Long Island City, NY 11103

Cuisine: Japanese

Best Dish: The entire meal was well thought out and executed perfectly. If we must choose a favorite it would have to be the rice bowl. The Donburi is a filling and delicious rice bowl that leaves you satisfied but not overstuffed.

Cost: $$$$

Activity: Sunset Sail on the Manhattan 2, from Pier 62 (Chelsea)
Description: Finger foods, cocktails and a 2-hour cruise on the Hudson
Meal: Dinner at Craven, 346 West 40th Street New York, NY
Cuisine: American with International flair
Cost: $$$$

Making date night plans can be hard. More often than not we find ourselves wanting something more interesting than the basic dinner and a movie. This is especially true if you and your partner have been together for a while. Don’t end up in a date night rut. Instead, plan a romantic sunset sail and a meal with Harbor Line Cruises and Craven Restaurant (Formerly Magnolia Restaurant).
