Nicholas K Opens NYC Store

by xoJohn

Designer Nicholas Kunz has opened his brand new store in lower Manhattan. The store has beautiful decor, showcasing the drapey, modern staples they’re known for. The store also has whitewashed floors and towering plants with white parachutes cascading from the ceiling.

“WE WANTED TO HAVE A CANVAS TO SHARE OUR VISION, MEET OUR CLIENTS AND EDUCATE THEM ABOUT THE VERSATILITY OF EACH DESIGN AND THE FIBERS WE USE.” -NICHOLAS KUNZ

To celebrate, he held an exclusive party featuring the Holy Mountain Pero Fall/Winter 2018 Collection. The collection includes soft alpaca sweaters, tencel knits, vegetable-dyed jackets trimmed with shearlings, sandwashed flowy silk dresses and tops, black denim, and classic poplin shirting and dresses with corset detailing. Prices range from $280 for the wrap crop shirt in cotton flannel to $1600 for a vegetable dyed leather tanner jacket in burnt sienna with shearling collar and cuffs.

Brother and sister design duo of Nicholas K presented a rather unique spring collection. The Spring 2016 show opened with a white parachute trench and then followed with a white nylon windbreaker pullover and pant combo. For this spring collection, they were inspired by the occupations of their brother who was a NAVY Seal and father who was a flight surgeon. They appropriately titled their collection, “Terminal Velocity.” This collection of 50 looks featured silk maxi dresses, dip-dyed poncho’s, and lightweight denim dresses and joggers.

Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2013 Collection

by Desha Winborne

As if in prelude to the latest blizzard to ravage New York City, Kunz offspring, Nicholas and Christopher of Nickolas K presented a stellar collection inspired by unforgiving arctic terrain.  Drawing inspiration from the explorations of the early 20th century the duo created a collection that marries function and fashion.  An array of warm textures and tones offer contrast and intrigue.  The palette reflected the rich earth tones and lush greens of the landscape as well as the icy snow capped peaks of a mountain summit. Thick lush wools were paired with light flowing knits in a delicate balance of layers.  Among the pieces a few bursts of shine via satin finished jewel tones.

Mercedes Benz Fashion Week kicked off with Nicholas K’s Spring/Summer 2013 Collection at Lincoln Center. The New York City based sibling designer duo were inspired by the 70’s Sci-fi film, Soylent Green, which predicted a dystopian future for New York in 2022. “It had this futuristic, nomad feeling that was interesting for us since we’re really organic in our lifestyle,” Nicholas Kunz told ELLE. “It talks about how there are all these technological advances, but people are reverting back to pureness and a minimalistic life.”

Nicholas K Spring 2012

by Emily Suarez

Once again I had the pleasure of attending the Nicholas K Spring 2012 fashion show at Lincoln Center. And once again the sibling designers left me breathless wanting more. The inspiration for this season was the modern Gypsy which was felt throughout the collection in the airy lightness of the flowy dresses the models strutted down the runway.

Nicholas K Fall/Winter 2011

by Emily Suarez

The sibling duo of Nicholas Kunz and her brother, Christopher, went a bit woodsy mixed with bohemian gypsy for their men’s and women’s Fall/Winter 2011 Fashion Show at Lincoln Center this season.
