B.o.B. performs at SOBs in NYC

by Dana Bingham

S6300120.jpg picture by jsdailyWhen I attended the Steppin Laser’s show in Atlantic City, I didn’t know what to expect from B.o.B. Based on what I had heard from mixtapes, I had made the assumption that it would be a typical hip hop show which includes a DJ and a hype man and possibly an irrelevant crew. But I was proven very wrong. I was so blown away by B.o.B‘s performance that I had to come back for more and attend his show a few days later at SOBs.

It is nice to see an artist step on the stage fully clothed up to her neck and who sings so beautifully that you, the audience, are inspired by her talents and not distracted by stage antics. That artist is Janelle Monáe. I have had the pleasure of seeing her perform previously as an opening act for other artists; it was great to see her take the stage of her own sold out show at the Highline Ballroom.

JHollins0841.jpg J.Hollins picture by jsdailyIf you are searching for a smooth R&B album to spice up your iPod, you must add The Soul Renaissance LP by J. Hollins. J. Hollins, a Chicago native, has been compared to the likes of John Legend and Anthony Hamilton, but it is clear that he has a style all of his own. The Soul Renaissance LP is more than a sultry romantic mix of tracks, it is a biographical sketch of a young man’s journey to become a grown man. JohnSimonDaily caught up with J. Hollins to discuss his current release.

If you were sitting at home Friday night catching up on your TiVo’d shows, you missed out on a great night of music. Thousands, over the age of 21, crowded into Gotham Hall for a private event sponsored by Heineken and hosted by the sometimes funny comedian Godfrey.

John Legend Presents Home School Records

by xoJohn

IMG_3378.jpg picture by johnsimondailyLast week record label executives, fans, and JSD were amongst the crowd inside SOBs, located in downtown New York City, where R&B superstar John Legend hosted an extraordinary showcase for his Home School Records label. The show featured his younger brother Vaughn Anthony. He performed several songs, showcasing his impeccable vocal range. One standout crowd favorite was his debut single, “In Your Shoes” (co-written with Legend). Anthony, began singing backup for his famous big brother nearly two years ago and definitely showed the crowd that talent runs in the family.
