A Conversation with Abby Bernstein

by Dana Bingham

I'mSorry

When you are named after The Beatle’s album Abby Road and have a lineage of classically trained pianists, music is bound to be your destiny. Such is the case of young singer/songwriter Abby Bernstein. Abby grew up surrounded by music from Blues and Folk to Soul and Rock ‘N Roll. From a very young age, Abby trained under and performed with renowned artists in Jazz such as the late great pianist Billy Taylor and vocal coach Tiana Travers. In addition, Abby has also received accolades for her writing, winning New Writer award from The Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

BNYCBilal is on my very short list of artists who are underrated. Bilal sprung on to the music scene in 2001with his Neosoul debut album 1st Born Second and its smooth and sultry first single Soul Sista. The Philly native, who was a jazz and opera trained singer/songwriter, was working with everyone from Common to Erykah Badu. Fans couldn’t get enough of Bilal and wanted more. In 2006, Bilal was set to release his second album, Love for Sale, but the project’s release date was pushed back and later shelved due to the project being leaked entirely online.

Revealed | Meet MuteMath

by Dana Bingham

MuteMath.jpg MuteMath picture by jsdaily

“Come on, can I dream for one day?
There’s nothing that can’t be done
But how long should it take somebody
Before they can be someone

‘Cause I know there’s got to be another level
Somewhere closer to the other side
And I’m feelin’ like it’s now or never
Can I break the spell of the typical?”
Mute Math (Typical, 2006)
