The 2016 Jazz Age Lawn Party kicked off its August fête with a slew of people descending on New York’s Governor’s Island. Although temperatures were at all-time high, that did not stop the party. From dapper gents to the Roaring Twenties. Everyone relished in a day of live amazing live jazz music, dance performances, savory and delicious cocktails.
The Jazz Age Lawn Party is one of the finest and most well-attended events in New York City. The event was conceived by Michael Arenella (leader of the Dreamland Orchestra) in the 1920’s. According to the wall street journal, it is “the biggest (not to mention the cleanest and most family-oriented) regular event in the ‘Retro Noveau’ movement…” Two weekends in a year, guests are invited to go back and relive America’s most formative era. Jazz has been an important part of American history and it was the height of fashion in the 1920s and the 1930s. To honor the great artists, twice a year the governor’s island goes back in time to recreate and experience the 1920’s.
One of the most fashionable events of the year took place over the weekend. The 9th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party! This annual festive shindig was held on New York’s Governor’s Island. More than 4,500 free-spirited flappers and well-dressed gents flocked Island for Day 1 of this fashionable fete, which has become the quintessential outdoor celebration of the Golden Age, transporting its impeccably-dressed revelers back to the 1920s through cocktails food and music.
Over the weekend we literally stepped into the 1920s as attended the 8th Bi-Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party on Governor’s Island. Over 5,000 fashionista and gents moved across the dance floor to show of their style and classic Jazz moves. Our team was there to capture it all. Take a look at some of our favorites!
Governor’s Island was the place to be this weekend for the 8th Annual Jazz Age Lawn Party. It was like traveling back in time as the historic island was transformed into a 1920s wonderland with decadent decor, vintage cars, classic jazz music, and of course thousands of free-spirited flappers and well-dressed gents.
French liquor, St. Germain even got in on the fun by showing off their vintage Citroen truck and by having the uber talented and mixology maven Lynnette Marrero create signature specialty cocktails for the festive occasion. We started with classic St. Germain Cocktail which we found to be quite refreshing. It’s an easy breezy type of cocktail that would be the perfect start to your evening.
