by xoJohn

Fur tails neck-lines, candy-coated dresses and lacy details are all a part of Georgine’s Fall 2016 Collection. Georgine is the vision of Designer Georgine Ratelband, founded in 2011, as a made to measure business, her collection has taken the fashion world over and has been adored by many including Kylie Jenner and Beyoncé. For this season, her focus was on the fairy-tale, with a mix of “Peter Pane” collars and “Cruella de la Ville” fur stoles. The enchanting gowns that draped over the models were quite seductive without showing much skin.

Designers and Noon By Noor founders Shaikha Noor Al Khalifa and Shaikha Haya Al Khalifa take an unstructured, relaxed, albeit expected, approach to their Fall 2016 collection that debuted on February 14 at New York City’s The Dock, Skylight Moynihan Station during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week.  Combining classic menswear tailoring with fluid feminine silhouettes, the collection features wide-leg mannish pants, silk pajama tops and floor-grazing trench coats with a bathrobe-like coziness in colors of white, sapphire gray, taupe, caramel, and midnight blue.

#NYFW: O’2nd Fall/Winter 2016 Collection

by xoJohn

When you think of a brand that creates effortless looks with hints of modernity for women, make sure O’2nd comes to mind. After their Fall/Winter ’16 Presentation at New York Fashion Week, O’2nd is truly making their own lane in womenswear. O’2nd is a brand that was established in New York, however, its roots lie in Seoul, South Korea. Being lead by brand director, Minsoo Chung: this collection pushed for originality and expression in bright colors. The details were truly spectacular, including using soft fabrics to mimic fur on a blouse. There was also unexpected attention on specific parts of the clothing, such as the bottom cuffs and coat collars. Their inspiration drew from the Victorian Era, with an embrace of the high-vintage theme. American artist Frank Stella’s black and white artwork was also additional inspirations that made subtle details into the clothing, especially with the cut-out shirt contrasts.

As the only Mexican designer being featured at New York Fashion Week Men’s, Ricardo Seco’s Fall/Winter 2016 collection focuses on contemporary Mexico while drawing inspiration from the country’s bold and unique culture and history. Stark, dramatic black provides a foundation upon which Seco builds a vibrant line that plays with color, texture, luxury, and glamour. In this, his 9th collection, (titled “TIME”), Ricardo Seco combines the richness of Mexican culture with its new contemporary sophistication.

In keeping with his previous collections, Greg Lauren brings us a full presentation of old world antics (think newsboys and boxing matches) with a post-apocalyptic twist. Consistent in his distressed detailing Lauren’s FW2016 Men’s collection provides a unique approach to sportswear. Keeping to hues of olive, gray, brown, and black, the collection is anything but drab. Lauren is an artist, and his work is presented with such imagination. Collections always “tell a story”, but often the story is left to the viewer’s imagination, sometimes with rough guidelines that indicate the feeling or direction the designer intends the collection to take – Lauren presents the story and the collection as one.

Naeem Khan gave us gala meets an evening out with his Spring/Summer 2016 collection. There were gowns that would make any woman the bell of the ball, and cocktail dresses that would be instant attention grabbers at any party. The inspiration for Khan’s most recent collection was “iconic muses of the ’50s and ’60s…Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, and Jackie Kennedy.”

Yesterday afternoon Dennis Basso debuted his Spring/Summer 2016 Collection during New York Fashion Week at Skylight at Moynihan Station. Basso an American fashion designer who is known for his couture fur designs gave us something a little bit different with this collection. He still wowed us with his furs but he didn’t stop there. Basso used bright colors, floral designs, lace, and chiffon to tell the story of the bold and fearless woman.

GANT was founded by Ukranian immigrant Bernard Gantmache and his sons in 1949. It all started as a family business built around a simple well constructed shirt and has since grown into a major fashion brand. The house of GANT is divided in three distinct sub-brands: GANT Originals, GANT Rugger and GANT Diamond G. All three brands were represented at New York Fashion Week via an eye opening presentation. The inspiration was classic preppy style with a modern edge.
