Brunch

Cost: $$

If all you know of Hooters is tight t-shirts and orange hotpants you are doing your taste buds a grave injustice. From shareable appetizers to decadent desserts you can satisfy your comfort food cravings here.  The first Hooters opened over 30 years ago and since then over 400 locations have been opened across the globe. We visited their New York City location on 33rd Street for a meal and a few drinks. This location is equipped with two dining rooms, a small gift shop and several mounted flat screen TVs. The screens are positioned to allow a good view of the game from any seat in the house. We’ve enjoyed plenty of meals at Hooters over the years but we rarely stray from the usual wings and fries. For our visit, however, we indulged our curiosity and had some lesser-known dishes.

Review: Solomon & Kuff

by James Bianca

Location: 2331 12th Avenue, New York, NY 10027

Cuisine: The lovechild of Caribbean and Gastropub Fare.

Best Dish: It is often the simplest cuisine executed well that makes the greatest impression, and the Yucca Fries paired with their house made Green Chili Aioli was a dish we returned to again and again.

Price: $$

Overall: For a restaurant that is located off the beaten path, its décor and cuisine could rival that of any New York City dining hot spot.

Mornings were made for warm fresh bread and steaming hot coffee. If you start your mornings on the Upper East Side, pop into Padoca Bakery for a fresh cup of java and any one of their tasty treats. Padoca is owned by Marina Halpern, a restaurant professional who has worked in some of the city’s finest kitchens.

Brunch at TESSA (Review)

by Desha Winborne

Location: 349 Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY

Cuisine: Mediterranean

Best Dish: The french toast and it’s amazing maple butter were superb, but the dish that stole our hearts was the “Bennie,” with many possible combinations the ingredients ensure that every incarnation will be a good one.

Overall: A great brunch service with a diverse crowd and delicious dishes. Ideal for a special celebration or a weekend treat.

Location: 225 River Street, Hoboken, NJ 07030

Cuisine: Seafood/Italian

Best Dish: The Lobster Rigatoni was stupendous. The pasta was well made and the sauce was a light flavorful complement to the succulent lobster. We also highly recommend the creamed kale, it was one of the very best kale dishes we’ve had. The creamy sauce worked well with the bitter kale.

Overall: Halifax is a beautiful space offering delicious farm to table cuisine. The venue is a perfect place for a special occasion, a rare date night, or just a special treat for any seafood lover (like ourselves).
