Sons of Chaos (Book Review)

by Desha Winborne

Greek General Marcos Botsaris was just a child when his family was slaughtered in a deceitful attack on his village. Young Marcos was kept alive to serve the evil tyrant who made him an orphan. After years of servitude, Marcos escapes his captors to lead an epic revolution that dismantles the Ottoman Empire, effectively ending hundreds of years of oppression under the Ottoman regime. Sons of Chaos is a dramatic often tragic retelling of Marcos’ incredible fight for freedom and vengeance. Through his eyes, we witness his evolution from a scared young man into one of Greece’s most revered heroes.

The legendary Russian Samovar Restaurant and Piano Bar hosted a literary star-studded book release party for authors Allen Salkin and Aaron Short, featuring some of the restaurant’s authentic Russian delicacies and cocktails. In their new book, The Method to The Madness: Donald Trump’s Ascent as Told by Those Who Were Hired, Fired, Inspired—and Inaugurated (released July 9, 2019, by All Points Books), veteran journalists Salkin and Short has written an objective, nonpartisan oral history devoid of anonymous sources. The book shows that Trump had carefully planned his bid for the presidency since he launched what many considered to be a joke candidacy in 1999. The administration is still a joke to us!

Last week, we stopped by the New York City’s 21 Club where Philanthropist Dianne Bernhard celebrated the launch of Judge Frederik Block’s new book, Race to Judgement. Race to Judgement is a realistic fiction thriller based on high-profile cases and characters including Gambino mob boss, Peter Gotti, former Brooklyn DA Ken Thompson, and the Crown Heights riots and others that the Judge encountered during this 23-years on the bench. After reading a few chapters, we loved learning about the inner knowledge of the justice system as well as the books sly humor, and memorable characters.
