Slate NY Gets An Upgrade

by xoJohn

Since 2000, Slate NY has been the go-to hot spot in the heart of Chelsea. It seems like every time I walk by, there is always a line of young partygoers eager to get inside. I’ve happened upon Slate a few times in recent years and had a good time. I was eager to see the new digs when I heard they were undergoing a $2 million dollar renovation. I would describe the new and improved Slate as an adult playground. The 16,000 square foot venue now has multiple private rooms, three bowling lanes, a karaoke room, a BYOB (Be Your Own Bartender) pouring station with 20 adult beverages on tap, and a 20-foot slide to get partygoers from the top floor to ground below without having to lift a foot.

Today, RFTP opens in Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The new rooftop bar and lounge is located just above the posh POD BK Hotel. It truly is a beautiful bar that will instantly welcome guests with amazing views of both the Brooklyn and Manhattan skyline. With a zinc bar that seats 20 and cushioned wooden banquettes, the vibe and the views are the main focus at RFTP, perfect for a quiet afternoon drink or a proper night out. A standalone sprawling secondary space provides the ability to host private events for up to 200.

New Hotspot: The VNYL – Vintage New York Lifestyle

by xoJohn

New York City nightlife in the 70’s was as the kids say, Lit. Nightclubs and exclusive lounges littered the city and despite the crime and poverty that plagued much of the city party goers always found a place to be. The night scene attracted ambitious creative people who met and mingled enjoying drinks and good food.

This week we stopped by one of New York’s most talked about dining experiences, Sushi Roxx. After getting a glimpse of the restaurant on The Real Housewives of New York City, we couldn’t wait. The trendy Japanese inspired dinner theater and club hybrid just celebrated their one year anniversary and is already planning lots of surprises for years to come. Their latest major announcement is a partnership with Karina Smirnoff, you may know her from being an award-winning dancer and perfecting her moves on ABC’s Dancing with the Stars. Smirnoff has signed on board to choreograph the fourth performance installment called “ROXX:RELOADED” at Sushi Roxx. She brings 20 years of experience to make it the biggest and best show to-date. During multiple dinner seating’s, guests will be invited to a nightly spectacle where the wait-staff seamlessly slip from servers into the spotlight and “Flash Mob” to select songs.

Restaurant Review: Firehouse Tavern

by xoJohn

Location: 522 Columbus Avenue, New York, NY

Cuisine: American/Mexican

Best Dish: The wings were tasty and well prepared

Overall: It isn’t the best representation of the guilty pleasures you expect from a tavern but it is a welcoming place to watch sports and potentially rub elbows with New York’s bravest.

Firehouse Tavern is a laid back sports bar with an array of memorabilia celebrating New York’s bravest. The pub serves a variety of local beers and features a full bar. We stopped by the venue on a weeknight in search of good bar food. Our friendly server led us to a comfy booth on the upper level offering us a birds eye view of the bar scene below.
