Food Fête Summer Recap

by Desha Winborne

We are gearing up for Food Fete’s summer edition by thinking back to all the great food finds we discovered at their Spring showcase. Food Fete Spring event was all about turning allergies and special dietary needs on its head.  Vendors from all over presented delicious options that appeal to a variety of appetites and diets. Not only were not only health conscious they were also tasty. Our favorites embody all the comfort foods and sweet treats we often enjoy but made of healthier ingredients for guilt-free snacking. Our top picks from the event were:

Location: 57 East 57th Street (Ty Bar at The Four Seasons Hotel)

Items: 6 Cocktails, 4 Small Plates, 2 Desserts

Best Drink: Though we thoroughly enjoyed one of the most luxurious Old Fashions ever created the star of the night was the Meridian. The zesty citrus and warm cinnamon flavors are a winning combination

Atmosphere: The atmosphere is relaxed luxury.

Overall: Despite the opulent surroundings the vibe is very comfortable and easy. The bar services a unique mix of ages, so don’t expect a wild night of drunken debauchery. Instead go with the intent to eat, drink and be merry.

Kickoff Memorial Weekend with These Recipes

by xoJohn

Everybody knows we really kick off summer during memorial day week, despite the calendar listing June 21st at the official date for summer. The newest wine brand from Diageo Chateau & Estates, Truvée, is derived from the French word meaning “to find.” The Truvée Red Blend varietal is a natural pairing with summer grilling – produced in partnership with Susan Palmer, The Girl In The Little Red Kitchen, the Blackberry Chipotle Truvée Red Wine Barbecue Sauce is a mouth-wateringly delicious and classy addition for summer dinner parties.

Location: 135 West 45th Street

Cuisine: American

Best Dish: The wings were splendid and the mac and cheese was to die for, but the bread pudding was the star of the evening. It was butter and rich without being cloyingly sweet.

Overall: Both the restaurant and the bar are comfortable relaxing spaces. The restaurant is perfect for the whole family but the bar is an impressive space for date night or an evening with friends.

Location: 33 East 60th Street

Cuisine: Chinese (Beijing Style)

Best Dish: The ribs are by far some of the best we’ve had thus far.

Overall: Despite its glamorous fans and dress code, Philippe Chow is a comfortable casual dining experience. Though the potential celebrity sightings are a fun and voyeuristic reason to visit the food and exemplary service is what will keep you coming back.

It’s been a while since we last stopped by Haru Sushi, and boy have we missed it! Haru Sushi is one of the hottest sushi restaurants around, boosting elegant decor, superb services, and of premium sushi. Last week, we stopped by their oh so chic and trendy Gramercy Park location for a fun night food and cocktails. Guests of the evening were whisked off to a private room upstairs from the main floor to enjoy a sampling of the new seasonal offerings. For the Spring/Summer season, Haru’s Executive Chef, Steven Ferdinand added 5 new protein-packed, beach body building seasonal food items to the menu, along with 2 amazing cocktails. While waiting for the first course we enjoyed the Strawberry Margarita, a sweeter fresher version of its more traditional recipe. The strawberry cocktail features, Avión tequila with agave nectar, fresh strawberries and for an herbaceous touch basil.

Location: 57 East 57th Street New York, NY

Cuisine:American (Brunch)

Best Dish: We love Eggs Benedict! The Eggs Benedict at the hotel did not disappoint. The sauce was creamy and decadent with a sharp citrus flavor.

Overall: An very impressive hotel to say the least, brunch is a grand way to start your weekend. Of course, with any luxurious dining experience, you can expect to pay a little more. But who cares when you’re getting an awesome experience at a fine establishment.
