Carlos Campos Fall/Winter 2015 Menswear Collection

by John Stolen

Carlos Campos delivered a flawlessly executed collection that showcases his signature texture blocking and layered images. Keeping the colors in a muted range (navy, grey, black, white, and the occasional deep emerald) the F/W 2015 season is all about layered pattern – color-blocked raglan button-downs on checked wool trousers, and geo collar prints under charcoal grey pinstripes. The Rafafans influence is clear as graphic silhouettes peek out from under woolen open-collar coats, and neoprene is contrasted against velveteen. Campos plays with textures to create a dreamlike atmosphere in which ever-evolving perception is key.

J.Lindeberg Autumn/Winter 2015 Menswear Collection

by John Stolen

From 2001: A Space Odyssey to 2015’s Space Vision: A Tailored Odyssey. J.Lindeberg’s A/W 2015 Menswear collection is overtly inspired by travel in outer space, and the contrast between Earth and Mars. The collection is everything you could hope to see when presented with such a title. Slim fit trousers, the edges of a metallic knit sweater peeking out from the sleeves and neck of fitted blazers and bombers. Metallic boots! There are metallic leather boots, which draw the collection together.

Hickey Freeman’s David Hart does not disappoint this season with a collection that takes the label back to its all-American roots. Incorporating the autumnal palette of deep red, ochre, burnt orange, and a healthy mixture of brown and navy Hart gives a modern turn to the wide-brimmed bowlers and shearling bombers by creating a collection for every life situation the modern, metropolitan (or even suburban) man may face. The season ranges from a navy blazer checked with red over grey trousers, to a blue button-up paired with burgundy sweatpants, and plenty of solid suits to round out the many facets of a man’s lifestyle.

Ernest Alexander Fall/Winter 2015 Collection [Photos]

The conception for the Fall/Winter ‘15 Collection began while I was on a brief retreat in a cabin in upstate New York . It was a rented place from an artisan who had lived there for most of his life, working as a local pottery maker and craftsman . Throughout the house were some of his works ; sculptured pieces and photographs inspired by the southwest and Aztec traditions filled with rich colors found in nature around  the  cabin-olives, moss greens, and browns, punches of vibrant reds and blues and touches of rustic orange and yellows. From these colors and concepts, we began to build our own perception of this man’s life, conjuring up ideas of his travels, the things he may have owned or collected, how he dressed, and soon.

This season tells a story about a romantic, wandering traveler interested in the world around him and intent on preserving what he saw by interpreting it in his own dress and art. We played on the colors found in the house, with in his work, and throughout the heavily wooded area that was hauntingly beautiful. Hues of burgundy, grey, and softer shades of brown are prominent throughout this seasonal collection. The introduction of an ombre pattern pays homage to the traditional palette of fall foliage, while the addition of earth tones ground the contrast between crisp whites and rich navys.

Ultimately, this Fall/Winter ‘1 5 Collection celebrates the exploration and discoveries of a curious voyager – reminding us that the journey itself is truly the reward .

Lucio Castro Fall/Winter 2015 Collection [Photos]

This season we’ve been captured by the hypnotic made-for-TV movie “Ubu Roi” by Jean-Christophe Averty in 1965. Based on the revolutionary play by Alfred Jarry and considered by many the first sign of modernism, we were taken by its tension between serious and playful, innovative and primitive. And also a sense of alluring repetition that is so relevant right now through the extensive use of gifs and memes. We took the deep red found in the velvet capes of kings and used it in repetitive patterns on our Italian-made fabrics. The sweaters also have signature stitches that are persistently Dadaist and 3D. The collection is still anchored in an effortless and masculine “invisible uniform” that we always strive for.

Tatiana Pagés Debuts LAIO Art Exhibit

by xoJohn

Tatiana Pagés, a Chilean-Dominican New York-based activist designer, debuted her sustainable artwear collection to fashion and art professionals. The LAIO Art Exhibit is part of a movement that aims to increase environmental awareness and promote social change through design. What makes this collection even more lovely, is the fact that sixty percent of each item sold will be donated to AID FOR AIDS, a charity that strives to help communities at risk of HIV and the global population at large.

LAIO Art Exhibit 6

“I find inspiration through the unexpected, I enjoy taking something that most people consider to be trash and turning it into something beautiful – that is the essence of LAIO” stated Pagés. She continued to say “I am proud and pleased to show my art to the people of New York City, the fashion capitol of the country!”
