Portuguese designer, Katty Xiomara’s Spring / Summer 2018 collection played to the spirit of “Americana” that swept across New York Fashion Week. With a “parachute trip” theme, models wearing oversized aviator glasses and fierce eye makeup took off in floaty, flirty pieces with mesh-like, see-through and graphic imprinted textiles. In colors of sea green and pink, tunic maxi dresses, hot pants, ruffled skirts and sweet doyly collared tops referenced fashion from Southern California bohemian chic to preppy prim and proper. Xiomara seeks to create aspirational yet accessible pieces. Her Spring / Summer 2018 collection is wearable, although not completely original. Showing in Portuguese Fashion Week since 1998, Xiomara has achieved international recognition for her elegant and timeless pieces. In June 2014, she was awarded the second prize (Silver) by the International Design Awards on the Pret-a- Porter category. In April 2015 was awarded: Second Prize (Silver) in Pret-a- Porter Competition for the Wireframe Project and Honorable Mention in Women PP Competition for the Wireframe Project.

As one of the most well-respected and diverse tradeshows, it’s no surprise that Agenda continues to draw brands and buyers. From its humble beginnings with only 30 brands with now more than 500+, the show continues to expand. And this year for the first time, the show featured a one-day only open to the public Agenda Festival, drawing fashion and music lovers in droves as it was headlined by some of today’s top artists including Tyler the Creator, Ludacris, Cam’ron and Lil Dicky. The Agenda Festival provided a platform of fashion meets music thanks to the 500+ pop-up shops for consumers to shop the “curated mall” of top brands in skate, surf, streetwear, and lifestyle, meet and greet their favorite athletes, explore the food truck alley and enjoy live musical performances.

#NYFWM: Heliot Emil S/S 2018

by John Stolen

Julius Juul, Designer and Creative Director at Heliot Emil went out on a limb for the Spring/Summer 2018 collection. Instead of following trends, he dove into the trenches to create a line that draws attention to the post-war existential crisis that is experienced by many, but is largely overlooked in our consumerist culture.

#NYFWM: Nick Graham S/S 2018

by xoJohn

Nick Graham presented today his latest collection, entitled Atlantis at New York Fashion Week/Men’s. Inspired by the mythical continent and the ocean, the collection was further influenced from fashion in the 60’s and Graham used Donovan’s 1968 hit record “Atlantis” as the music for the show. The start of the show featured a 10-minute short film directed by Graham based upon the ocean with music from 16-year-old composer, Truman Gaynes, adding to the overall experience.

“Even before the “Life On Mars” show, I was thinking of exploring the ocean, and not only our impact on it, but it’s impact and influence on us. The Atlantis show is really a metaphor within a fashion show. In many ways we are Atlantis and need to be cognizant of where we live and how we live here,” Graham has said.
