This past weekend the second annual All-Star Chef Classic took place at LA Live. On Saturday, I had the pleasure of attending the Grill & Chill presented by DCS and Stella Artois. The event deck at LA Live was transformed into a food carnival. As you entered the event you were handed a ticket booklet. Each ticket within the booklet represented a chef and their dish. Throughout the venue there were cooking stations that corresponded to each ticket and whenever you were ready to have the next food experience you would tear the ticket, place it in the appropriate bucket, and receive a plate.All-Star Chef Classic 2016 Grill and Chill (2)

Naeem Khan gave us gala meets an evening out with his Spring/Summer 2016 collection. There were gowns that would make any woman the bell of the ball, and cocktail dresses that would be instant attention grabbers at any party. The inspiration for Khan’s most recent collection was “iconic muses of the ’50s and ’60s…Sophia Loren, Grace Kelly, Brigitte Bardot, and Jackie Kennedy.”

Yesterday afternoon Dennis Basso debuted his Spring/Summer 2016 Collection during New York Fashion Week at Skylight at Moynihan Station. Basso an American fashion designer who is known for his couture fur designs gave us something a little bit different with this collection. He still wowed us with his furs but he didn’t stop there. Basso used bright colors, floral designs, lace, and chiffon to tell the story of the bold and fearless woman.

On Sunday Sony Pictures Studio in Culver City played host to the American Cancer Society’s 30th California Spirit fundraiser. “For more than 100 years, the American Cancer Society has been leading the fight to end cancer. With the generous support from millions of people, the American Cancer Society has been able to translate their research findings into action and by doing so, has seen a 20% decline in US cancer death rates since the early 1990s.”

The Playboy Jazz Festival took over the Hollywood Bowl this past weekend. The two-day festival saw droves of people coming together to enjoy the musical talents of both veteran and up-and-coming acts.

On Saturday Morgan James showed us exactly why she was picked to play the part of Teena Marie in Motown: The Musical. The majority of her set included songs from her debut album titled Hunter. Morgan belted out the lyrics to “Fed Up on You” which instantly became one of my new favorite songs! “Heart Shake” and “Say the Words” were pretty dope as well.

2015 LA Pride Celebration

by Simone Southwell

This past weekend the 2015 LA Pride Celebration presented by Christopher Street West turned the West Hollywood Park into a festival of fun for members of the LGBT community and their allies. Throughout the weekend the festival was filled with revelers. Both the clubs and the bars within walking distance of the park were full to capacity!

Last Thursday, The Imagine Ball LA brought to you by Randall Kaplan and John Terzian was held at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. The event benefited Imagine LA, an organization that “harnesses the power of volunteer mentorship teams (from faith communities, companies, and other committed organizations) and existing community resources to empower families to transition from homelessness to self-sufficiency.”

Celebrities were out in full force in support of Imagine LA and its continued efforts in the fight against homelessness in Los Angeles. The red carpet featured the likes of David Arquette, Anne Heche, Patrick Schwarzenegger, Markus Molinari, and Christa B. Allen.

On June 4th Imagine LA will be holding The Imagine Ball at the House of Blues in West Hollywood. The Imagine Ball, a benefit concert created by Randall Kaplan and John Terzian, is one of Imagine LA’s major fundraisers.

Imagine LA is a nonprofit organization dedicated to “mobilizing volunteers to end family homelessness in Los Angeles. Imagine LA matches families exiting homelessness with volunteer teams through an innovative volunteer mentorship program. One Team, One Family. Through the consistency of this relationship, trust is built, skills are taught, and barriers are crossed that most families in homelessness never thought were possible.” Because of Imagine LA’s efforts “the cycle of homelessness and poverty is being broken and new relationships and opportunities are being forged for life.”
