Take Your 4th of July BBQ to the Next Level

Independence Day is a federal holiday in which we commemorate the adoption of the Declaration of Independence. 4th of July is also a holiday to bring us all together for a joyous celebration. I have fond childhood memories of fireworks shopping with my friends in Washington, DC and then gathering for a fun BBQ, where our parents would light all of the fireworks. As I grew into adulthood, this day became a tradition for a few of us to get together and watch the city’s fireworks, while enjoying some good old BBQ. Fireworks, BBQ, family, and friends, and of course booze. If you’re planning the same type of BBQ, you might want to take it to the next level with a fun booze-infused treat. I played around with a few ideas. Most of my inner circle loves tequila and BBQ, so I thought it would be a great idea to hook them up with a Hornitos® Tequila Plata infused BBQ striped chicken dish. It’s pretty simple to make and only took 15 minutes to cook.

Ingredients:

2 shots of Hornitos® Tequila Plata

Cold pressed coconut oil

A bag of pre-cooked chicken (baked or fried)

1/4 cup fresh pineapple juice concentrate

1/4 cup lemon juice

2 tablespoons distilled white vinegar

Generic BBQ sauce of your liking

Instructions:

Start by heating your pan with extra virgin olive oil or in my case, coconut oil. Coconut oil has great health benefits. Once your pan is heated, toss a few pieces of chicken inside and let it simmer on low heat. Low heat is important because it gives you time to work on your BBQ sauce. I started with a cup of BBQ sauce mixed and whipped together fresh pineapple juice, distilled white vinegar, lemon juice, and of course 2 shots of Hornitos® Tequila Plata. You can add an extra shot if you don’t want your sauce to be too sweet. Now that your chicken is nice and golden, spread it onto an oven pan or in a nice size bowl, like I did it. Now for my favorite part, drizzle or paint your Hornitos® Tequila Plata BBQ sauce onto the chicken while it’s hot. I would let it sit in the sauce for 5 minutes while the flavors settle into the chicken strips.
