Spirit of New York Gets A $1.5 Million Makeover

Now that the weather has finally improved, its is finally time to take our party to the harbor. Spirit Cruises offers several daily cruises aboard the posh Spirit of New York yacht. We recently had the privilege of enjoying the season’s maiden voyage aboard the newly renovated vessel. Last week we attended a press showcase which allowed media and industry insiders the chance to experience a two hour tour complete with dinner buffet and DJ. Since our last visit with Spirit Cruises there have been several fabulous changes.

The original ship has been upgraded with new furniture in a plush palette of soft blues accented with rich golds. New contemporary seating has been added to the ship along with a subtle wave motif though-out the ship. The three interior decks of the ship have also been rejuvenated with four new bars and an interactive dance floor with color changing LED lights that change with the music from its state of the art sound system.  Also added to the ship is a full service bar on the outside as well as a roof top lounge. The new layout is comfortable, chic and offers guests a more relaxed atmosphere to enjoy the amazing views of NYC. The upper deck features more lounge style seating and the addition of tables to enjoy meals and beverages top side.

In addition to the cosmetic changes guests can enjoy a revamped menu courtesy of Executive Chef Eric Levine. Levin a James Beard award winner is also known by food network fans for his win on the hit series “Chopped”.  The masterful chef used his considerable skills and created a stellar menu of elevated buffet style dishes that bring elegance to the classic buffet.

One of our favorites from the new menu is the cavatelli pasta tossed with roasted vegetables and tomatoes in a fontina cream sauce. The pasta is perfectly prepared and the sauce is rich and creamy. The vegetables though cooked retain a delicious freshness and firm texture, a delicious dish. Another favorite from the new menu is the Asian-style short ribs served alongside scallion mashed potatoes. This fun dish is served in a mini Chinese style takeout container. The succulent short rib is tender and juicy and the potatoes are buttery and light a perfect compliment to the tasty beef.

After a delicious savory meal guests can enjoy a trio of delectable desserts:  malt ball mousse, chocolate fudge cake and mini apple crisp. The desserts are delicious and just small enough to enjoy all three without any guilt.
