The only thing better than seeing your favorite artist in grand arena surrounded by tens of thousands fans is watching them perform a small intimate performance for a select few. Over the years Absolut Vodka has collaborated with some of the music industries biggest artists in creating unique concert experiences. Their latest endeavor will introduce the world to up and coming artists via an intimate concert series called “The Encore Sessions”.The “Encore Sessions” are a digital music series live at NYC’s Le Baron night club. The episodes will feature an artist interview and 3 live performances. We had the awesome opportunity to view the first two episodes at a private event at the Liberty Hall of the Ace Hotel. The dimly lit venue was the perfect setting for the viewing. Executives and artists mingled with media and fans; enjoying passing snacks and of course an open bar featuring specialty Absolut cocktails. We settled into the plush leather seating with glasses of Absolut Mandarin Punch and waited for the show to begin.
Episode 1 features Brooklyn native Theophilus London. London’s genre mixing brand of hip hop has garnered him some critical acclaim as well as a faithful fan base. His set began with a high energy of the wildly successful “Last Name London”. He bounced across the stage in striped jeans like a veteran showman engaging the spectators and marveling in the spotlight. A more subdued sat with host Alexandra Baker for the backstage interview. The interview is an important feature int he series as it gives a glimpse into the person behind the music.
After two more selections from London we got into the 2nd episode with The Virgins. The New York based band is a sharp contrast to London’s energetic delivery. Their sound is not unlike early punk bands. Having opened for rock legend Iggy Pop and were sponsored by Jet for a 7 week American Tour. Though they aren’t household names as yet this group is well on its way, appearing on several late night talk shows as well as Rolling Stone’s top 100 songs of 2008.
Though you may have missed the party? Don’t fret you can catch the first episode here.
