Awestruck was the feeling upon entering Bibhu Mohapatra’s Fall 2011 presentation during Mercedes Benz Fashion Week.Set in the foggy darkness of the Box at the Lincoln Center, the collection inspired by Arthur Miller’s “The Crucible” was simply stunning. On a white platform, statuesque models stood in colors of emerald and plum juxtaposed against black and white fantastically conveying the theme of the struggles of good versus evil and dark versus light.
Mohapatra’s Fall 2011 collection is luxe in textures including fur, leather and what appears to be a favorite this season… feathers. Mohapatra’s use of crow feathers gives the collection an almost “Black Swan” inspired feel however, his use of leathers and dyed furs take the collection a step beyond.
I would love to own every piece of this collection and I expect that I will see some of these designs on the red carpet. It is modern glamour in a very sophisticated wearable way.
