Same Sky and DKNY team up for Global Empowerment

Thank you, Francine Lefrak for hosting a special DKNY shopping event. While guests at this event may have taken advantage of a fantastic discount on DKNY apparel the night belonged to the women of Rwanda and their hand crafted jewelry. Beautiful beaded bracelets and necklaces were displayed prominently at the event in an amazing assortment of colors and styles. At $30 to $160 these pieces were priced to move.  The female artisans crafted each piece as a part of a program instituted by “Same Sky”.

Same Sky is a “fair-trade” company whose overall mission is one of empowerment and independence for all women. The women are taught how to bead and are given steady employment as a result. Same Sky also works with Guhaya links a Rwandan company that employs HIV positive women and survivors of the 1994 Tutsi Genocide. Its not often we take the opportunity to think of others struggle. It is a blessing to witness the coming together of women from so many countries, not only to aid but to teach and inspire hope for a brighter tomorrow. So the next time you’re out looking for a “statement” piece of jewelry check out and hopefully you’ll pick up something that really has something to say.
