Revealed | The Music of Marcus Harmon

Influenced by an array of artist such as, Marvin Gaye, and Michael Jackson and many more, Marcus Harmon seemingly blends his melodic thoughtful songs with his jazz tinged angelic voice. In a day when recording artist come a dime a dozen Marcus is a breath of fresh air or more like a supernova of musical talent, and with the launch of his website he wishes for the world to know his talent. Marcus Harmon was born in the Midwest, Columbus, Ohio but now calls New York his home. Singing, writing, and accomplished guitarist he truly is the total package. He’s bringing R & B and pop to a new forefront in the current music world. Take a look!

We recently sat down with Mr Harmon for a in depth interview…

What brings you to NYC?


My music and my quest to be on top!

What is your musical background/training?

I have studied vocals ranging from jazz to gospel for years. I’m a self taught song writer and guitarist.

Walk us through the processes of creating a song? Do you write the lyrics first and then create the melody?

I usually create a topic and find a melody that fits the topic. I take stories from television or from friends. Many times I dream songs.

Yes, my father is a amazing musicians, saxophonist and my mother is a wonderful vocalist.

Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?

I really admire Stevie Wonder and Michael Jackson also Paul McCartney. These three individuals were and are so popular but still remained great inventive artist.

What do you do in your spare time?

I love reading, movies, and all aspects of art.

What advice do you have for anyone trying to get into the music business?

Study your craft and know what people want.

What are your fondest musical memories?

Listening to my mother sing Aretha Franklin and Anita Baker in the shower!

Who are your favorite musicians?

I have many but my absolute favorites are Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, John Coltrane, Michael Jackson, Chet Baker, Sly Stone, Sarah Vaughan, and Minnie Riperton. As far as groups, The Beatles, and Sly and the Family Stone.

Do you have any favorite albums?

“Off The Wall” (Michael Jackson) “Talking book” (Stevie Wonder) , and “Kind of Blue” (Miles Davis)

Have you been in competitions?

When I was younger I performed and run a lot of Talent shows.

Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions?

Yes, I perform in public. Open mics and shows. They are very raw as far as it just being me and my guitar singing intimately to my audience.

I rarely make mistakes but if so I simply keep going, no one really notices and it’s apart of becoming a better performer.

Do you get nervous before a performance?

No I don’t, I get very excited.

How often and for how long do you practice?

I practice vocals, guitar for hours a day.

Do you teach music?

No, I don’t teach but I constantly encourage anyone in the arts.

How do you balance your music with other obligations – mate, children, job?

I don’t balance, my music comes first, for now at least. The people who know and care for me should understand.

What five items would you have with you if you were stuck on an island?

My iPod, a journal, my mom’s lasagna, a good book, and my dog.

What is next for Marcus Harmon?

I’m looking for management and for producers to work with and trying to grow my fan base. Other then that keep creating beautiful music and giving people the gift of song.
